  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

All the talk about $12-15 per hour minimum wages before the last election... and here we are again with just enough votes to get it done without Republican help, and it hasn't even been a part of the conversation.
You haven't been paying attention to the conversation very well then. There was an attempt to include a $15 minimum wage into the ARP bill but it got killed by Senator Sinema. https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2021/03/06/sinema-thumbs-down/

Can you give some examples of these policies? Leaving aside pandemic-related stimulus money, since that was in response to extraordinary circumstances and isn't permanent.

Generally agreed that it's a good idea to work towards balancing the budget, but there's no reason why we should be restricted from increasing the budget as needed, so long as those increases are paid for.

Increasing minimum wage does not cause inflation (at least not runaway inflation). And if anything, you would expect the minimum wage to increase to account for inflation, which hasn't happened, leading to a significant drop in the value of minimum wage. The federal minimum wage has stayed static for the simple reason that Congress refuses to increase it.

Generally agreed, though it's important to recognize that there will always be a subset of the population that's incapable (physically or mentally) of working. You will never have 100% of the working-age population employed - in any country, ever. There's a reason why economists generally consider ~3-5% unemployment to be "full employment."

Yes, it is a huge problem. So far, the only reasonable solution that I've seen is instituting some form of UBI. Creating busywork for everyone isn't helpful. I'd rather make sure everyone has the necessities, then allow them to pursue their passions.

UBI would end democracy.

Picture what would happen.

How long would a significant number of people need to be on UBI before that generation was essentially worthless? No work experience, barely passing school, and what will happen if they threaten to take away their income? Their UBI?

What will those people do then?

Exactly whatever they are told.

UBI is essentially giving away your right to property.
