Through my journey of coming to know the Lord and trying to grow in faith I came back to this forum in the hopes to gain insight and wisdom throughout my quest for truth. However, I am surprised at the diversity there is here where account holders title themselves as "Christian" but the views among the users can vary greatly and often topics become filled with bickering and trying to prove points.

I'm confused and concerned at the same time. I don't expect the entire population within these forums to completely see things exactly the same way but as Christians, should we agree to 99.99% of God's Word? Am I missing something here? lol

But I guess if that were the case there wouldn't be a forum huh? I don't know, I just seem to get more confused with each visit here.

My biggest problem with Christianity is that you could take any Bible verse, give them to ten different people and end up with ten different interpretations. That's why there's such a diversity in belief instead of a universal way of knowing God's truth.

That's one of the many reasons why it's easy to start doubting faith.

It is surprising that Christians get involved in bickering and trying to prove points. We are only human though and we learn through discussion. I agree it can be confusing.

All that we can do, as Believers, is to check everything against the Scriptures...and by that, I mean against the Original Scriptures...the Old Testament, and then prove even the New Testament by the Old. No one person gets it entirely right, because we are reading documents written in a different time, and of a different knowledge base, to people we do not understand the entire circumstances of, but we can be sure of a few things.

G-d exists, and created us, is attempting to save us through Yeshua, and all we need to do, is trust Yeshua to lead and guide us through the Ruach haKodesh.

Once we are trusting Yeshua, we need then to conform our walk to Yeshua's. Do righteousness, love one another to the best of our ability...because by this we show our love of G-d.

Doubting what we do not understand is natural, so ask Abba for understanding. He gives it to those that ask.

Sometimes you hear people say, “We need to bring the Bible into modern times.”

I believe that’s the wrong thing to do, you need to take the modern reader into ancient times. You need to reconstruct the setting in order that you can get the interpretation at the time it was written.

Every text of Scripture has one true interpretation.
We might not get them all right, we might disagree, but all texts of Scripture have one interpretation, one only.

What did the divine author intend that the human author wrote down? What was the intent of the author, God and the writer? That’s what we’re always after.

Every small element of Scripture carries only the intended meaning of the author and the task of the interpreter is to correctly determine what that meaning is.

There's far too much of this, and it can be very concerning and even disheartening. I think there are two things that are necessary in order to deal with the problem. First, know why you come here. My goal is to learn and to help others, and I try to stick as close to that as possible and avoid temptations otherwise.

The second is to practice discernment. Some threads, some posts, and yes, some people, are about imposing their views and about argumentation, which does not promote the goals of kingdom of God, which is edification in Christ.

It comes down to the forum being a tool - a wonderful tool, actually, but as with any tool it must be used properly or it can do damage. If we approach our use of the forum prayerfully, we will do well.

Blessings.

Well, when you mix denominations sometimes we tend to focus on differences since we find it interesting.

Also the debate forums there is always...debate for people who enjoy that.

It depends on which areas you frequent too

Reading text is difficult because you can't see or hear the person or get a sense of their true emotional state. Some folks write with more flair and know how to express emotion, while other are more blunt and to-the-point. Sometimes text can be read as being rude, when the intent was the complete opposite. I need to remember this. :)

That's mostly because many people take verses out of context.

The one principle of doctrine that all true Christians should agree on is faith in Jesus. I believe God allows us a certain amount of discretion in other doctrines, but does not enjoy the way people bicker about who has the most correct theology or whatever. Such thinking is entirely man and none of God.

Now I do believe that God will reveal more of Himself to the one(s) who forsake all things, including manmade doctrine, in pursuit of him.
