  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

A women on TV is on trial for murder by diphenhydraine oral, the liquid. Basically that's benedryl. She was working in a daycare and gave a toddler 3 ounces or 18 teaspoons(12.5mg per teaspoon) of the stuff which is 225mg and says she didn't think giving this poor little boy, would be hurt by it.

I could understand one accidently giving a kid maybe 15-16 mg because those little cups are not the most accurate but...besides the medication(thanks to google) isn't meant for kids under 6.

Is it common practice for daycares to be allowed to give medication to children? I don't know if I'd like the idea of a daycare assistant giving medication to any kid I may have. When I worked at a daycare the only medication we gave out was inhailors for asthma & even then two people had to be in the room and it had to be documented and all that.

This coming right after the nurse thinks my nephew needs drugs to be more "relaxed" and it just got me to thinking...these people the kids are left with, do they give our kids medication and we don't know it until something bad happens?

I think most places have rules against administering medication. But the rules don't necessarily keep the workers from giving in and giving a dose of something. I remember working with a lady whose boys were in daycare and one of the boys needed Tylenol for some thing. They refused to give it to him even though it was in his bag. The mom had to go over there and administer it herself. I'm sure you'd have to sign some kind of waiver or something if your child needed an inhaler or an epi-shot or something and the parent can't be reached.

I'm sure it differs from place to place too.

usually there are safeguards inplace for staff, I had to take a medication administration course before I could administer any drugs. I hope that stricter measures are put inplace so that people like this lady can't give medication so freely...that's more than an adult dose...didn't she read the bottle???

After listening to both lawyers I doubt it was an accident. No one could mistakenly, even if she thought each cup was 30mg, think giving 90mg is a good idea.

Exactly, I'm an a adult and I've never taken more than 100mg and that's only during an allergic reaction normally I don't take over 50mg.

Benadryl has the opposite affect on Andie, she doesn't get sleepy, she gets hyper!

If you get the dose from your pediatrician, you can give it to your child if they're under 6 (that's what I had to do for Andie).

Needless to say, this woman was so out of line, I mean, what could she have been thinking....well, evidently she wasn't!
