  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

The only thing; I don't think a lot of automated things are made to handle numbers like that. They are okay with Sr. Jr. and then roman numerals, but arabic numbers just don't often appear in names. So maybe the kid has a reprieve for a few years (until other geeks start naming their children in like fashion).

A friend of mine, who also was my 'successor' as teacher in confirmation classes, had named her son Frodo years ago. He did get some comments about the unusual name now and again, but not really that much. When the LOTR mania broke out, that changed of course... something she probably couldn't have forseen. As an unfortunate side... the boy is also rather small and HAS big blue eyes. But he'll get through it no doubt. I think there are few names that can not be made into jokes or rhymes.

At least she didn't name him Gollum!

He wasn't advocating ... that it would be better to drown your child than name it Version 2.0

they may as well have tied an anchor to his neck and dropped him off a pier after his birth. That would have been more merciful.
Somehow I doubt nyj would make similar jokes about spousal abuse... :o

As for the weird names, I heard a story awhile back about a school in a town where many "hippies" had settled and had children. On the first day of school, the children were to wear nametags so that teachers could keep them straight. The teachers had heard their share of weird names--Peace, Love, World Understanding, the list goes on. But even they were shocked when a shy boy came to school with "Fruit Stand" written on his nametag. Even so, they tried to hide their shock and treat the child as normally as possible. They asked him questions like, "Would you like a cookie, Fruit Stand?" and "Fruit Stand, do you need to use the restroom?" The child would nod or shake his head to indicate his answer, as he was too shy to speak.

At the end of the day, it was time to sort the children into lines to get them on the right school buses to take them home. A teacher turned over this boy's nametag to find out where he lived.

On the back, written plain as day, was "Andrew".

These are real names of people I have met.

Mary Christmas
Dwain Pipe
Laurelle Anne Hardy
Shane Brambles (ever play around with Spoonerisms?)

twin brothers Anthony Nuss and Peter Nuss (consider that at roll call they often called out names with the first initial followed by surname)

Parents, please give careful consideration to the names of your children because other children can be merciless when they find amusement in another childs name.

John.
