  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

This article got my attention; describing a pc, non-effective US military tolerating disloyalty.

Hi CGL,

What a crock of nothingness. The writer thinks that because a naval vessel ran into a merchant ship that we should be able to draw and quarter the ship's commander. The incident will be investigated and what the Navy deems is the proper consequence will be handed out. This isn't about President Obama. President Obama does not sit on the courts martial board. He is not a part of the investigative team.

This is about the Navy and how it carries out its duties. The writer and his father don't seem to think that the Navy is effective in doing that, and that's fine. Fortunately for all of us, neither of them have any say in the process. You do understand that when you read garbage you get garbage. It literally baffles my brain how someone can look at this event that the writer has brought up and blame it on President Obama. It's up to the Navy to police its own ranks. It's up to the Army to police its own ranks. Air Force, Marines, National Guard also. Generally speaking, the day to day operations of our military agencies don't involve the president as any kind of active voice in such matters. He may put in his two cents regarding an issue and he may even be asked by the Secretary of Defense about some really major issue, but I honestly doubt that two ships colliding is considered one of those kinds of major issues.

It was an accident and it will be investigated and it will be dealt with and very likely the president will not be involved. Now, if some foreign country were to attack one of our Navy vessels or a merchant ship of ours, then the president would likely be involved in what a proper response is.

Of course, with Donald Trump acting as President, one never knows. After all, he seems to feel that his responsibility includes discipline of NFL players.

God bless you,
In Christ, ted
