Keep going guys - you'll get rid of him successfully if emphasis the down side of each place in Australia. I think you've still got Adelaide and Hobart to go before we start rubbishing the regional university towns.

I mentioned self-depricating humour earlier, and our American friends accepted that's an Aussie trait.

So, in keeping with that, and your suggestion.

Adelaide - one word - Snowtown!

Hobart - legal to marry your sister ^_^

So what's next? The other university towns down here are what - Geelong, Bendigo and Ballarat?

I couldn't be bothered with country Victoria

Why not Bathurst and Wagga Wagga (Charles Sturt University)?
I was starting with Victoria because that's where I am, I assumed someone else would chip in with NSW and elsewhere.

Most of my family are in Victoria - so Go, Cats!

(they're going better than my beloved Parramatta Eels)

I've stumped them!
Nope sorry, you have not scared us away! ;)
I am taking a summer class and it demanded more attention then I wanted to give it this week.
I have a list of Universities I am applying to. I am hoping one will be willing to bring over an American with 2 little boys, one big boy and a very cute dog! We are waiting on our passports at the moment, then will begin the official process of sending over applications. It looks like the semester begins in July.
Poor Tahoenite, he is trying to look at housing costs, car fees, monthly fees ... I have not even applied for the Universities yet ....

Another question, do people have dogs as pets pretty commonly? Mrs. Tahoenite forgot to mention we have two dogs not just one both being good sized.

Ohhhh! and by snowtown did you mean they see snow or that they actually need plows, snow cars, and shoveling of driveways?

/sigh ... now he wants to move here! I was looking forward to never having to see the snow again unless I drove to it :)

It's worse than that!

There's no snow there, ever

Adeliade is known as the 'City of Churches' but there's a sinister undercurrent.

Snowtown is infamous for murders. Although its 145 km north of Adelaide the people were killed in Adelaide and stored in Snowtown

Adelaide has a few famouns/infamous moments in its history, even in the 60s when people left their doors unlocked there was the mystery of the
Beaumont children.

I loved Redgum. I even bought John Schumann's solo album (LP) "Etched in Blue". And after he left Redgum, I still bought their stuff, including an LP "Midnight Sun", and a vinyl single "Roll it on, Robbie" (it was released to promote safe-sex and AIDS awareness.)

Pets are just as popular here as anywhere else.

I've got three dogs and a cat.

Pet ownership is usually governed by local governments (City, Municipality, and Shire). Registration of animals and micro-chipping of them may be required.

You'd have to check by which Local Government Area (LGA) you're thinking of moving to. If you want an idea of what might be involved regarding pets, here's some LGAs around me and what they say on the matter...

Parramatta

Holroyd

Blacktown

Fairfield

Auburn

I should note here that our local governments aren't nearly as powerful as those in America.

For instance in America your City might run a police force, have judges, and run a school's curriculum.

Here that is all run at state level. As is fire, ambulance, housing, transportation, etc.

There's an article here on local government in Australia

I've actually never heard of snow being in Snowtown. I've no idea how it got its name
