  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Think I'll sit down here for a bit... (8)

Quilt Angel, Mum's the word. Have a safe trip and a wonderful visit.

Stude, thank you for the prayers. My hubby and I are also up to something that I can't talk about here. The Lord has given us a special challenge and with His help, all is going well so far.

Our cats had their annual outing today, in spite of protests and attempts to hide under the bed. Our two kitty-girls hate travelling. The vet said that Checkers' teeth are in remarkably good condition considering she's 14. She must be slowing down a little--it took us only half an hour this time to get her into her crate. Last time it took us 2 days to find her. Young Mr. Cyrus is officially ours now. No one claimed him, so he's staying overnight at the vet's for neutering. We assigned him an appropriate birthday--April 1.

The kitties sound like fun Latebloomer. One time when we were leaving for a couple of weeks, we were to take the cat to the cat hotel the day before, but he pulled a disappearing act in the house so we had to add that to the leave day schedule.

Phew, I was able to change out seat assignment to better seats when I checked in online. only had to pay a few more dollars. I was not liking the ones we had to originally get. These are going to be so much better. Hmm, may even be able to see the monitors better so I just might be able to watch the movies, if they are any good.

Yeah, I have a Trader Joes near me. I try to stay away because every time I go into one, I either get strange looks for having a gun on me or I feel my conservatism being sucked out of me by the swarm of liberals that are around me. ^_^ It's like they know!!! LOL I might just go to Cost Plus Imports. They should probably have it.

LOL, I see what you mean. Nevertheless, it's a good place for imported tea. Hang on... you carry a gun??? Are you a Police officer?

Grrr!!!
Guess we Mac users can't pay our Thrivent bills online. You can't use Safar, Firefox or Opera to do so. Someday I am going to find my old copies of Windows XP and get the parallels so I can run those Windows applications on those few places that I am shut out on.

Okay, rant over with.

IT'S A CONSPIRICY MAN! GATES HAS BOUGHT OUT THE GOVERN... Ahem.:sorry: Sorry, slipped there. Yes, this is one of the reasons that I think Microsoft has gotten a wee bit too big for their britches. Though admittedly, Apple is also to blame. They have allowed themselves to be much too propriatary. Now they're paying for their mistake made at their inception. Hopefully, they get past this. After all, we need at least some competition for M.S.;)

Power has been restored... an hour ago.

power to what, your PC ;)

The longest we have even been without power was 2 1/2 days last year I think. How dependant we have become on Mr. Edisons invention!

Last winter, we lost power for a week. A few years ago it was two weeks, for some parts of Trinity County. Thankfully, this year, I have a generator. However, if it's during cold weather, I just might save the gas and keep my refrigerated stuff out in the garage.;) The thankful thing is that my heater and fridge both run on Propane. One of the advantages of being White Trailer Trash.:p As to the computer, I'd have to set up a better power filtration device before I'd trust it to the generator.

It rained today for the first time (appreciably that is...) since April. The weather service says we can expect more tomorrow and Saturday. Those who have to travel in it have my heartfelt sympathies, however, I'm still celebrating it.

Tomorrow, I plant peas. The first ones should be ready for Thanksgiving.:)

We lost power last weekend. That sucked. We are almost too dependent upon electricity.

Hope and I are now discussing the next in the healing process. Whether or not to consider membership at the LC-MS church we've been attending for the last few weeks. It will likely be a month or more before we make that decision. However, prayer would be appreciated.

10 yrs ago we had a bad ice storm at christmas, we lost our electricity for 3 days, some had theirs off longer. We kept a fire going in the fireplace, it has an insert so we heated up can soup and stuff like that in a can. It has a ledge on the insert that the cans fit good on. We pulled the sofa bed around in front of the fireplace and slept there at night. It was like camping.

3 days! Did your pipes freeze or did the fireplace keep it warm enough?

We have a woodburning stove that we can get the family room in the back of the house warmed to about 90 degrees!! We've used it when the power has gone out, but the longest it was out in the winter was about 8 hours or so.

Six or seven years ago there was a bad snow storm in, I think, Portland (OR) or possibly Seattle (WA). Since there's a law in both cities prohibiting fireplaces the situation would be the same. Anyway... Because of the intense cold, and people using B.B.Q.s to heat their apartments and houses, many people died from asphyxiation.

I am so thankful to live where I do. Here in Trinity County, we haven't any of those silly laws. Not from any effort by the county, though. We have a large population from the S.F. bay area who brought with them their silly ideas. Reality, however, has punctured their conciousness and prevented any of those brainless laws here. For the moment.

George heats the house exclusively with a wood stove. My coach is heated with electricity and Propane. The blower on the heater runs on twelve volt, so I'm good for several days after power goes out. George hardly notices the difference... till he trys to turn on the T.V.:p Used to be, when the power went out, we lost water. Now, I've set up a gravity system and we have water, power or not. Provided of course the tank is sufficiently full.

We kept the water dripping at night so the pipes wouldn't freeze, it kept it pretty much around 60 in the house, the insert has a blower on it and when the electricity is on, you can build a fire in it and keep it pretty warm in the house.

you know, with a twelve volt trailer battery and an inverter (less than two hundred dollars) you can keep that fan going several days. With four six volt batteries, wired in series and an inverter (a little over twice the above), you can run the fridge too. All it takes to recharge your battery backup is an ordinary battery charger. The whole arangement is cheaper than a generator and has the advantage of being completely silent.;) The beauty of the whole thing is that all the components (with the exception of the batteries) are cheap and easy to assemble into a usable unit.:)
