  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Some of us have a sore throat right now. :(
I felt so bad that after wandering around Wal-Mart a few times looking for lemon juice, I finally just grabbed a couple handfuls of lemons and juiced them, peel and all. Wow!!!! Talk about concentrated. It's not helping my headache, though.

So Xander and I have been having a tussle about his love of sneaking under the Christmas tree cover and taking the silk ornaments from the tree. (I leave it decorated and cover it with a huge plastic bag) He keeps bringing them upstairs and I keep taking them away from him.

I just walked past the basement door, which is left open for the cats to roam as they will and because there are potty boxes down there, and there's Xander creeping up the stairs with another ornament in his mouth. He's looking all pleased with his bad self when he happens to look up and sees Mommy standing there staring at him.

I raised my eyebrow at him and he looked at me, turned around and started back down the stairs. I laughed and came in the computer room to finish my email before bed and he's back upstairs SANS the ornament. Of course, it's at the bottom of the stairs but...he knows he's been caught.

Silly kitty boy. He's such a good kitty.

Mucous drainage is one of the biggest reason for sore throats. Lemon will help cut the mucous.

For an intense cure for sinus infection start to cut up an onion and inhale the fumes. Don't stop till you're finished with the whole onion. Onions are one of the most natural antiseptic agents in nature. Even the fumes will cure sinus infections. It's best if you can chew on the onion and swallow just the juice but most people can't do that.

Cerette and I have way too delicate systems to try that. I'd rather have the sinus infection! :)

I love the ritual of Making Tea. and of Having Tea. I love the swirl of the leaves as the water brings them to life again gently steeping out the wonderful flavors and smells.

mmm. tea.

I always loved the.. um.. technical term for that.

Tea brewers and tasters call that "the agony of the leaves". It paints such a picture.

It's especially apt if you are brewing a pu-erh tea, an oolong that usually comes pressed in little balls. You pour in the water and the ball begins to swell and loosen, and the large leaves begin to unfurl...

Magic!

I used to get sinus infections all the time; a couple times a year. Actually, I still do, but I've learned how to feel them coming and what to do to head it off from becoming a full-blown need-antibiotics-NOW infection.

I irrigate my sinuses. And no, I don't use one of those cute little Hindu yoga pots and pour salt water from one nostril to the next. I make a cup of warm salt water and snuff it up one nostril, then spit it out my mouth. It's a deep cleansing, and really opens the sinus passages. Do that in the morning on any day I wake up with "that tickle" in my throat, and I'm usually good for the rest of the day.

Except I use Cream of Mushroom soup. :)

I've noticed that any oil like the chicken fat will dampen the "hot" in the pepper and bring out the real flavor. That's why hot wing sauces are so popular since they usually use butter to take the "ouch" out.

Interesting indeed. Looks much like the oolong "pearls" I've used, but these are white tea. Very delicate flavor. I can see getting something like that for a special occasion, and if I had a lovely glass teapot. But $3 a pot is rather steep for a tea I'm not sure I'd like. *laughs* I'll pay that much and more for a gold tip darjeeling (the "champagne of teas"), but silver needle white is not my favorite. I like tea I can taste.

I'm a barbarian that way. I prefer blacks and oolongs to greens and whites. I even like Lapsang Souchong, with it's smoky "tar" taste. Reminds me of camping, and the smell of woodsmoke that lingers in your clothing.
