  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

This guy was married, and knew I was married. Some of the clients I talk to will flirt with me over the phone. That really doesn't bother me, even with the older guys. I think they are just lonely more than anything, so as long as it's innocent, I let it go. This one was so out there I don't feel comfortable posting the details on a Christian message board, but it was definitely original. I thought after a couple of days when the shock wears off I would be offended. I'm not, it's just funny. When my boss gets back on Monday I'll have to tell him that I have standards. No one older than my parents are allowed to proposition me.

Oh that is so sad. While he was bipolar and OD'd on his prescribed medications, the fact that there were people watching and did not talk him out of it says a lot about our society in general these days. The value of life just gets cheaper with each incident like this.

I hate it that it boils down to someone claiming they didn't know they couldn't harass someone online.

What sheer stupidity is that logic?

As for the on-line suicide, I have mixed feelings about that.

I am so tired of all this meanness. What is wrong with people?
"In sin did my mother conceive me........". "........sinfull from my youth........." This nonsense that people are innately "good" is just a lot of nonsense from the bleeding heart liberals.

Well that was an interesting read Flipper. I did not realize that this story was ongoing in the way that it is.

The sad thing is that I think the Judge should dismiss it. I'm convinced that woman was behind it, whether directly or indirectly, and I think she deserves every bad thing coming to her. However, I don't think she broke any laws that were written at the time it happened. Just because you know she was wrong, doesn't mean she broke any laws. The local prosecutors looked at it for an entire year and couldn't find a law to prosecute under, and I think the laws that she's being prosecuted under now are a stretch.

Just like the on-line suicide. Someone is probably going to get sued and I'm sure the prosecuting attorneys are going to look into it. However, I don't think any laws were broken either.

I think the law should be changed to cover this because it's only going to increase. However, how can one write an anti-harassment law that isn't so broad hat it would include a minor argument on a messageboard? I'm sure it can be done, but I have no clue how.

I found the most wonderful website for hymns. It's called (rather unimaginitively, but what the hey?) hymsite.com. They have this function called Jukebox which continously plays the hymns. Not the best renditions, but tolerable.

It's here: http://www.hymnsite.com/

Have a try. They also provide the lyrics on individual hymns.

That's funny, Stude. We picked out wedding service hymns today, but that site didn't come up. I like lutheran-hymnal.com.

So, you're marrying the bloke, the British one? Then again, maybe he's Scottish, judging by the flag? My aunt Martha moved to Glasgow when she retired. She had a son and a daughter follow her. I haven't heard from her in several decades, so can only assume she's gone home.
Edit:
You know, Porter, I looked up the Lutheran Hymnal site and found that 'It Is Well With My Soul' isn't included in the hymns. That amazes me. There's quite a story of faith behind the song. Pity we don't include it in our songs of faith.

We don't? My congregation sings it all the time. I've learned the words so I haven't needed to open a hymnal in ages...

huh. Learn something new everyday, don'tcha?

Look for the title "When Peace Like a River". It's also in the new LSB hymnal.
