My mouth is too small to take photos for the same-day crown so I got a temporary one and I have to go back Friday. I've been to the dentist 5 times in the past 2 weeks.

I didn't know they did same day crowns now. Cool. Yuck on going to the dentist 5 times in 2 weeks.

Yea It's called Cerec. They take photos of the area and then they build it with some kind of model making machine. Now they are still using Cerec, they just have to build it based on the mold.

From my house I can see about a half a mile down the valley where the turkey hens are feeding and the toms are strutting their stuff. The hens play a game and ignore the toms but still work their way towards them.

My buddy has 140 acres and I rode the "mule" around the property a few days ago just to find some good deer stand sites even though I don't hunt. Hunting laws forbid "baiting" the hunting area with corn or salt licks but Joe has some "licks" scattered around in the woods. He will bring his other buddies down here to hunt during hunting season and they will get some easy shots. Nothing "sporting" about that. The dear don't have a chance. Oh well. It's not like I never "fudged" on something.

This is just a beautiful time of the year. We had some men come in and tear out the Chinese Elms that made a mess in the yard and replaced them with about 4 different kinds of Maple trees (six 18 ft trees in all). They all change at different times in the fall and some are turning before we even got them. Probably from replanting stress. I also had them regrade the gravel driveway around the shop since water was collecting there and not draining off.

Then I had the AC repairmen over 3 times and they finally found a leak in the A-coil. That has to be replaced. It was freezing over when the AC ran. We bought this house about 1 1/2 ago and I never realized that the heating system was hot water from the hot water heater. Interesting. It's a closed system but it might help reduce increase the humidity content in the air in the winter so it isn't so dry from the heating system.

Do you have a boiler, Rad? Our closed heating system runs from the boiler, which also feeds a hot water storage tank. Hopefully, yours will be more humid than forced hot air, which is good, but it can also make for a fair bit of condensation. We have that problem with some of our old windows, but we're replacing them as quickly as we can.

In our flat down on the coast, we also had radiators, but they were oil filled and heated with electricity. I honestly prefer that to the hot water system for safety and plumbing reasons. Old radiators and pipes are subject to leaking, but all in all, I definitely prefer radiators with individual controls to central, forced air systems. Being able to quickly adjust room temps is pretty nice and so far radiator heating systems seem to be pretty economical when dealing with a fair bit of square footage and different levels.

God willing, we'll all have a much more mild winter than we had last year and be able to keep warm.

Before I even noticed what type of heating system we had last year I did notice that the air wasn't as dry as it usually is with just an electric furnace. There is a demand system a-coils running from the hot water heater and it sits in the plenum and it delivers extremely hot water. It's an over sized hot water heater.

We have closed oil heater systems in the US also. I have 2 of them for the cabin but they are not that efficient unless I just have a poorly insulated house. I'll run them on low in the utility room around the well tank and water heater so they don't freeze.

Wow, 18ft trees, Rad? that must have set you back a bit. If they're showing a bit of shock, give them some vitimin B. it'll help a lot. 'Course, it would have been better to have applied it when they were planted. Still, a day or two later will still help a bit. I don't blame you for removing the Chineese elms. They are a bloody pain in the... back.

Great to hear from you Porter! How has this summer been? I hope not as hot as a few of the recent ones. I was reading about the Crystal Palace yesterday and the park it was moved to (sadly the building no longer exists). Is Crystal Palace Park the place with the HUUUUGE ferris wheel in London?

Rad, my dad has said that once you get used to hot water heat, you will never feel warm with any other sort of heating system. We had it in the house I grew up in. I think we had a water heater separate from the boiler. Kids don't pay much attention to that sort of thing. I do remember the hot water heat being installed. Before that, it was electric baseboard heaters. I now live in a house built by the same contractor. Guess what, baseboard heat. GE Gold Medallion home. I guess it was all the rage when the house was built in 1960. Hubby is in the process of replacing all the old ones with new more efficient ones.

We have been busy at our house. We're foster parents and we're breaking in a couple new kids. We've had 3 other kids plus some respite care a few weekends since Bear moved out a year ago. After 14 boys in a row, we finally got some girls. Bear is going to community college but continues to make poor choices. One of our girls graduated, went home, and is now in college. I love happy endings. Sigh, if we could afford a bigger house, I know of 4 other kids that need forever families. And then I think about 7 kids (some with special needs) vs one and question my sanity.

I just wish Blue Earth County would get on the ball and get out here to do our home visit for licensing. We want to do fost-adopt and we went to orientation back in July and we've been waiting ever since. I make phone calls here and there but from what I understand the child intake level is low right now. They are doing everything possible to keep kids with their parents, mainly because the number of social workers has decreased, which somehow doesn't seem right, but oh well. My good friend here is a foster parent and she recently turned down a 2 year old and a 7 month old, both girls, before smacking herself and remembering that we want girls.

We know that it's in the Lord's hands, whatever happens. It just stinks because we know that nothing CAN happen until we're licensed.

Wow--------14 kids in foster care! I thought I had my hands full with just one a few years ago........by myself. That is amazing!

They were on an "end of the year" sale. Usually sell for 400$ apiece and got them for 175 each + installation. Thanks for the vitamin advice.

I know how you feel, PW. Our paper pregnancy took almost 4 years, from the time we started looking into adoption/foster care until Tiger's adoption day, plus all the years we waited for our miracle. Flipper and Filo have been there too. All the paperwork, the classes, lots of waiting. You and Mr. PW are going a similar route to what we did. God, in His wisdom, knows when the time is right, but sometimes it's hard for us humans to realize that. (EEP! I just counted up, and realized I've been "mom", however briefly, to 21 kids in the last 6 1/2 years!)

Note: re my 21 kids, never more than 3 at once. Sometimes that's too many and sometimes not enough. And we took a break for a year after Tiger was diagnosed.

Oh no Filo! I am sure that you logged off and then back on. Emptied your cache and all those good things to see if that would get rid of the block. Sometimes I would get some sort of error message and have to do that to get back in. When you do, change your password. Sometimes that helps too.
