Well Airbrean, I wish two of my teeth could have been capped. Unfortuneately, I've never had either the cash or dental coverage when needed. All the best with yours.

well... it's been four years and I still haven't been able to find a real job . Haven't been able to find any Handyman work for quite a few months either. So... I finally bit the bullet and applied for stamps and aid. The lady was asking why I didn't apply earlier. I was evasive as I didn't want to insult her. she was doing her best to be nice, so I did the same. They were actually very kind today and I was able to get everything but the General Assistance done today. That process is next week. Foodstamps are now a debit card. Got two hundred dollars.
At least there's some groceries in the house.
I got a real laugh out of the values they placed on my cars and trailers. If only I could get those prices, I wouldn't need assistance, LOL!

Speaking of cost - they are saying total cost is now $200 less than they first estimated so I'm so happy. Yea Studeclunker - I know how you feel (well not to the degree you have it). From 2003-2007 I was in and out of jobs (really bad employers) and didn't have insurance at all for the most part (health only and I was paying it all myself). Luckily I was able to get enough to pay for it with my freelance but I was just scraping by and had to ask my parents for money...but only once.

I have heard it said that a people get the kind of government they deserve. If that's the case... I do hope the American people can straighten up and get back where we need to be. Sadly, our government has allowed American Business to export our economy. We need to start tightening the borders a bit. I don't see it happening though.

Aibrean, I worked for a company that fired twenty programmers and my staff of forteen (computer operators) to replace all of us with Chineese nationals.

Lol. Just make sure you don't catch yourself by accident.

I hope you have fun.

I did that when I was seven. Going off to the creek I decided to do the Huck Finn thing and threw my pole over my shoulder. Marching down to the creek, whistling like a starling, I didn't realize the all four of the double hooks on my line had caught in my shirt. When I pulled the pole up and over my shoulder they set themselves into the skin of my back. Dad had to very carefully pry and work them out of my skin with his pocket knife. Seemed like it took forever, though I'm sure it was only a few minutes. Never carried a pole over my shoulder again.

Another time, my sister, who LOVES fishing asked me along with her. So, here we were sitting out on Irvine lake, waiting for the fish to bite, in the early dawn hours. After about an hour, I leant over the side of the boat and shouted down to the fish, "All right you little buggers, BITE ALREADY, WILL YA!!" Wendy said I was embarrassing and she'd never take me fishing again.

Then there was my Uncle Bud who always took us fishing at Balboa Pier when he came out to California. Blaine (my slightly older brother) and I always caught the same things. Blaine would get an Octopus and I'd get a Scopin (a very spiney rock type fish). Poor Uncle Bud. I don't know which he was afraid of more. The poisonous spines on the Scopin or the Octopus, LOL! Blaine did redeem himself sometimes though by also catching a flouner or two. I wasn't crazy about fishing, and the Scopins didn't help things, LOL. Still, I'd put up with a lot to spend time with Uncle Bud.

I do hope you have better luck, Sis! May you avoid both octopi and Scopin.

I like fishing where the fish jump into the boat. Although they are not very edible, the Grass Carp are jumping into boats along the Illinois River. They had a segment on TV were literally millions were jumping out of the water and landing in boats. There is even a yearly event were they have competitions on the river for how many fish can be "caught".

I worked for a company where the boss used me to do design work and said he'd pay me and got $14k out of the design work and didn't give me a dime. I did the design work as a freelance thing...they also didn't pay my real wages.

I contracted for another company where the owner was bi-polar and never paid me and took us to a job site which was completely unrelated to my work (design) and wanted me to paint a house. Then he hired someone off the street who told us he just got out of jail (this was a very bad section of town anyway). Me and the other guy I was working with left and I had to sue the guy and garnish his wages.

The next company was using stuff illegally and when I found out and refused to work until the remedied the situation they essentially fired me.

At least what happened to you wasn't illegal.

Very true. Selfishness and greed are rife in the management of our corporate structure and always have been. Sadly, these people are not only robbing the workers in the U.S. now, they are also robbing the country itself (look at the bank 'bailout'). Yet, are not also the American people to blame for loving imported goods so much? The whole mess is a vicious circle, a self-perpetuating cycle, that shows no end in sight.

At the same time, we as Christians, know that there will be an end to these kind of people. That their evil will proliferate in the world till it becomes the norm. They will dominate everything as the prince of this world knows his time is limited and he wants to destroy as much as possible.

Yet, we know the ending of the story. The Prince of this world will lose, his minions will be destroyed and the world will be re-made. Thankfully, it's the best of happy endings.

That's why we strive to buy American if we can find it. I don't mind paying more for quality (and I'm quite vocal about it). My husband got a serpentine belt for his truck and asked for a made in USA one and the guy at the parts store said he has been getting a lot of similar requests lately and that's promising.
