• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

We cannot merely pray to You, O God, to end war;
For we know that You have made the world in a way
That man must find his own path to peace
Within himself and with his neighbor.
We cannot merely pray to You, O God, to end starvation;
For you have given us the resources
With which to feed the entire world
If we would only use them wisely.
We cannot merely pray to You, O God,
To root out prejudice,
For You have already given us eyes
With which to see the good in all men
If we would only use them rightly.
We cannot merely pray to You, O God, to end despair,
For You have already given us the power
To clear away slums and to give hope
If we would only use our power justly.
We cannot merely pray to You, O God, to end disease,
For you have already given us great minds with which
To search out cures and healing,
If we would only use them constructively.
Therefore we pray to You instead, O God,
For strength, determination, and willpower,
To do, instead of just to pray,
To become, instead of merely to wish.

House Publishers, Inc, 1988), p. 423.

this means a little more to me now, now that i am a soldier in the U.S. ARMY.

i will go to iraq eventually, sometime in the next 4 years. and im sure ill go more than once. wishing and praying isnt enough.

its the soldier who finishes war and stops the evil, not the hopeful and the wishful.
well, the person actively involved that is, not neccesarily a soldier.

for instance,
its the soldier who pays the price for freedom of speech, not the press.
its the soldier who pays the price for freedom period, not the protester.

its the soldier who purchases every right, priviledge and freedom we have as americans, not the protesters, the flamers, the authors, the congressmen, not the media or the press who shout that someones rights are being voliated.

i could very possibly lose my life out there one day, and i will have purchased freedom, not people who simply demand it. though people have every right to demand what is rightly theirs.

AMEN you are so right. I am the widow of a Vietnam Vet and daughter of a career Air Force man so I know where you are coming from,and I am so sorry and ashamed of how little this country is aware of the truth of your words, and the value of our military men and women. God Bless You and at least I can say that my church keeps them in prayer. :hug: :hug: :prayer: :groupray: :wave:
