If you had faith you would rather trust Him without asking. He wants us to "ask" not because "HE" doesn't already know, but because "WE" don't sometimes know, and it helps "US" to know it by defining it and verbalizing it, into known terms, helps "us"...
For example I had a certain sin problem but didn't know how to "verbalize" or explain the problem with God in prayer, but as I matured, I was eventually able to verbalize and define the problem in words out loud to God in prayer, after I was able to do this it helped me immensely with the problem, because "I" got to hear it verbalized out of my mouth and I felt like I had finally narrowed it down to it's source, after I was able to pin it down, repentance and not doing it anymore became so, so much easier, not because "God" didn't know the problem, but because "I" didn't know it, and it really helps to "know" "I" needed to hear myself say it, which meant defining it, in order to let it go...
God Bless!
