• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I know the feeling man. OCD has a way of coming up with whatever is needed to keep us freaked out about stuff. Therapy and medication are two ways of helping you deal with these thoughts, and I can say that medication has helped me, personally, a great deal.

Basically though, you want to learn how to ignore your thoughts. You don't try to mentally confirm whether it's alright or not to ignore, and you don't want to force the thoughts out of your mind. You just want the thoughts to come and go without discouraging or encouraging them.

As you said, of course, that is an extremely difficult thing to do. It's because of this difficulty that many people have to either take meds or go to therapy.

Have you read much about OCD? It helps to get be well educated as to how OCD works. If this doesn't help you at all, it's probably time to talk to a mental health professional to seek therapy and/or medication options.

I have these same thought about "selling my soul" but honestly I do not think it is possible to sell your soul.

My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. 28 I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand. 29 My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all, no one can snatch them out of my Father’s hand. 30 I and the Father are one.”

There is an external force that can persuade us too, even work through our flesh. It is said, and I think this is even Biblical, that at the moment a Christian is born (spiritually) he is assigned at least two demons to follow him or her around. One preacher I heard explained it by the verse where Paul says that he was given a thorn in the flesh. God uses means to discipline us and He can use the devil too but our hearts are deceitful. I know because a couple months ago I had this thing in the morning: I would wake up and all of a sudden start remembering old days when I was an unbeliever playing video games all day long. It would be really persuasive. In fact it felt like a self brainwash. Someone posted a thread in this section if things like that are demonic. We can't give a straight answer to that because most of the time it is our sinful nature that gives rise to the flames, the devils usually come along and do devastation but it might be them alone as well in which case it's just pure oppression but if you are a believer they can't do anything to you. If you think it's yourself that's the origin of bad thoughts think about the verse that says that Satan is a liar. God does not want to strip you off the joy you can have in Him. I saw stories on the internet of people who claim to have seen the demonic realm in their dreams (to be honest I just read 2 or 3) and even if 10 percent of what they say is true is true then we have no clue what are we up against. They say that demons can be so subtle and even whisper to your ears that you can't discern your thoughts from their voice. And demons don't stop. Their days are numbered. They will make as much noise as they can before they are silenced eternally in the lake of fire, which explains their determinedness to torment us 24/7 and draw us away with them. Stand firm in Christ, give your thoughts to Him all the time and don't let the devil have any ground. You are called by Jesus to have Him as your highest treasure and enjoy Him forever. I'll go as far as to say that if a thought goes against you call it does not come from God. God does not call people and then say: "Behold, your thoughts are dirty again, depart!". In time, and of course a lots of prayer you will start seeing those thoughts as door, opportunities for prayer where the only option is, as always, run to Jesus. It may sound silly but each time bad thoughts come to you rebuke Satan in the name of the Lord Jesus. He can't stand against the word of God. And when he reminds you of your sin you remind him of his future.

Blessings!

Frank,

I know exactly how you feel with the whole "illuminati" stuff. 6 months ago, a friend sent me a link to a recording on YouTube about the illuminati-ish kind of groups "cursing" albums so that evil spirits could attach themselves to people through buying music in the 70's (weird, right?). I was going through a tremendous amount of stress at the time, so I started thinking the same things you are and had compulsions to ask Satan and his demons to do all sorts of things, which scared me beyond belief. I'm still struggling wtih hearing a phrase repeated in my head...but it's all OCD. It's not real. God KNOWS you have this illness and nothing can take you out of His hands, as Kodadog mentioned above. I will be praying for you, because you CAN beat this!

Dear Frank,

I've had those thoughts too. I've known about the illuminati and rappers and stuff, but I never had those thoughts pass thru until recently. All I can say is that God is still with me and I know that Jesus hasn't left me.

Selling one's soul is a determined action with one's whole heart. From what I've read, you haven't so thus you haven't.

You can't let the devil deceive you like that and take away your peace and faith.

May the God of all comfort keep you in His perfect peace.

Maybe it is OCD or maybe it is the enemy causing you to fear. It doesn't really matter because your fears won't change the truth. If you are in Christ then your name has been written in the book of life, and the enemy or your mind can't touch that. Next time you have these fears, go open your bible. Have your fears changed what the Bible says about Christ and who He is? No, they haven't. And if your fears can't change that then they certainly can't change the fact that Jesus has got ahold of you and He's not letting you go.
