  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I personally don't think I could take anymore inane, pointless surface chatter with christians. Thats what I get every sunday, and pretty much any time I interact with christians in person.

More and more it seems the only place I find conversation worth having is on the internet

Ironic isn't it.:sigh:

I think it is because we feal safer talking and being honest with people we don't know, because it can't reflect on who we are to those we know in person.
It is because of insecurity I believe that so many have difficulty being deep and honest in person.

thats true in some things I'm sure, but I just can't find people interested in the topics I am.

95% of the men I brush elbows with are interested in cars, hunting, and a various assortment of gadgets. That is about all they talk about.

Feel the same way - conversations around me - what the latest fashion is, sports, the latest tragic news, the latest stupid tv program, etc. If you try to change the subject to a good sermon you've heard or something you've learned scripturally, they just look at you - and some of them are Christians.

It does seem like God is stripping away and letting us know that nothing nor no one (I've not saying eliminate your families) but Him alone is the one who satisfies this hunger and thirst.

You have no idea how right you are.
I have been hearing this everywhere for several days.
This is truth.

These forums can only ever be as pointless as we choose to make them.

Our words form this territory, it's down to us to make this place the best it can be, for the blessing and building up of the Church - each other.

God bless, love Sue :groupray:

Sometimes, to me, a thread is “pointless” and I am sure we all agree that when, after 700 posts, we have reached an impasse, it is time to drop the subject and move on. Sometimes we can actually be convincing but sometimes weare just obnoxious and beating a dead horse.

Still, someone is going to find any thread enlightening or helpful and I should not judge that because something that is not interesting to me it is that way for everybody.

I just not go to those threads that hold little interest to me. I am not where you are in my journey and visa versa.

I've come to believe if I'm not going to insist on having it my way, is that this forum is a great exercise after the mud has been thrown at each other, is coming back together and learning to be nice. You know...sort of like siblings that probably will never agree. But want space to be heard. Plus there are threads that I have learned an awful lot from everybody.

I am so sorry to hear that. I would say that if that is your experience then you are going to the wrong church.

My 13 yo dd asked me the other day about the differences in the denominations and why they all think they are right and everyone else is wrong.
I told her that it is not right and wrong, but different paths to God.
However, at our church, we feel that the path we are taking leads to the most enjoyment of Christ and is the straightest path.

I asked her what the services at other churches that she has been to with friends are like and at one, the preacher preached about families or something. It was not about Christ.
I told her at our church meetings, what you will hear about is Christ.
We focus on Christ.
Even at our home meetings and phone calls to one another, we may have conversations about other things at times, but we also share our enjoyment of Christ with one another. And we share our failures. And we encourage one another in the Lord. And we pray with one another and we pray for one another.
This is the normal Christian life.
It is a wonderful enjoyment of Christ as our life.

You are right that it is hard to find people to talk to about the things you are interested in. Very few of my friends like to speak of their walk with Jesus - they feel it is a personal walk - I'm not judging them because they are wonderful people - but I like to share my walk and I get so lonely to speak with other people who share their walk.

I like to hear how God moves in their lives and the miracles - I get just as excited listening to a miracle in another person's life as I do in my own life.

I've learned a lot from the forum - if I didn't know something - off I go to look it up and I have really had some burdens lifted off my shoulders that I have carried for years because I thought it was unforgiveness - but to find it out (I think it was heron) that posted sometimes it is not unforgiveness, but just the fact that it was not recognized that I was done wrong - I was able to toss it aside after that - I'm very thankful for that.

I was telling my husband this morning - how strange it is that you care about people and pray for them and feel as though they are friends, but friends without faces - but I still feel as though I know them.

I deal with people all the time with hurting hearts - I laugh with them and cry with them and feel that they are heartfelt friends, if only in the heart - I never think that I don't know what they look like.

I don't spend a lot of time on the forums, but I check in a couple times a day to see if there are new posts or someone needing help of some kind.

I just don't read the worthless chatter, but I do look for a thread that I can learn something from or an interesting story. I love to read how God works in our lives.

I learn alot from you guys.

The forum encounters have a way of sifting us as well.

And even the ones that I disagree with, I still like seeing their name in that little box that tells me that they are online. I think of this place as my second church family.
