  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

For the first 6,000 years, humans believed hell is below the soil and heaven is above the clouds. Now, hell's definition is refined as a place without God and heaven is refined as a place with God's presence. But, God is everywhere! So does that mean we don't need to follow the scriptures and still be in heaven when we died?

Where is heaven and where is hell?

Not sure about heaven, but hell is in Orlando, Florida, being trapped on the "It's a Small World Ride" in Disney World for 45 minutes because the ride breaks down and you're forced to listen that blasted song the whole time. <twitch, twitch>

Its a world of laughter and a world of tears
its a world of hopes and a world of fears
there's so much that we share
that is time we're aware
its a small world after all

its a small world after all
its a small world after all
its a small world after all
its a small, small world

there is just one moon
and one golden sun
and a smile means friendship to everyone
though the mountains divide
and the oceans are wide

its a small world after all
its a small world after all
its a small world after all
its a small, small world

More like we don't want to create sinners. Jews are bound to the 613 laws of the Torah. Gentiles aren't. If a Gentile becomes a Jew and doesn't follow Torah, they are now sinning where they would not have been before. You have to really want to become a Jew to make it through conversion.

Where is heaven and where is hell?

The Baha'i scriptures answer this most eloquently!

I quote:

"They say: `Where is Paradise, and where is Hell?' Say: `The one is reunion with Me; the other thine own self, O thou who dost associate a partner with God and doubtest.'"
--Epistle to the Son of the Wolf, p. 132

Thus, hell is not a "place," but rather the condition of spiritual separation from God, which our scriptures also say is not a permanent condition, but one mitigated and ended through God's Love and Mercy.

Best! :)

They issue of being near to God or far from Him is not a question of geography.

Yes, you could win lots of converts with fear mongering and threatening them with hell. And you can keep the already converted in control by holding it over their heads.

Fear-mongering does not usually attract people to a religion, though it may keep people in who already buy into it.

Frankly, I think this is extremely over-simplified.

The doctrine of Hell, at least in Christianity, has never been monolithic in its scope, and has rarely been a simple affair.

Try the writings of St. Isaac the Syrian, or C.S. Lewis' The Great Divorce.

...no.

The Earth is 4.54 billion years old, and humans have been on this rock for a couple million years.
Also, the neolithic revolution took place about 10,000 years ago, whereas mankind in its current form (i.e. homo sapiens sapiens) has been around for roughly 100,000 years. Which means that most of our history took place before people even got the idea to put things down in writing.
