Divine command theory is a meta-ethical theory which proposes that an action's status as morally good is equivalent to whether it is commanded by God.

That's from Wikipedia..

So my question is not only relevant...it's absolutely necessary. What's your answer?

My answer is that DCT is an ontological theory, not an epistemological one.

I'll repeat the question for you....

"Let's suppose that you believe god tells you to do something...and someone believes god has told them to do the opposite. You both have biblical support for what you think god is telling you.

Who is correct and how do you know?"

Divine command theory falls under Theological Voluntarism.

Theological Voluntarism is plato.stanford.edu/entries/voluntarism-theological/

Any questions?
Have they already established that 1. a God exists, 2. that this God has an opinion on morality and 3. that God communicates his moral opinions - or is it more of "theory" based on entirely hypothetical premises?

Read the article, it is long, but you may learn something.

If God lied in the Bible - and being a omniscient his lies would be impossible for mere mortals to spot - would that be moral?
Irrelevant to the discussion. Stay on topic or cease from disrupting my thread. Thanks.

Well I am talking about reality here...so the question is still valid.

Is it impossible to answer?

No it is not impossible. Just start a new thread on Epistemology and Divine Command.

You're not going to derail my thread.

You asked for questions...

Why would I need a new thread? Isn't this one for questions regarding divine command?

Thank you.

Remember when I asked you why you created this thread and you said...

"Because I wanted there to be a place where people can talk to me about DCT without derailing my other threads. Thanks."

???

Well I'm asking you a question about how it supposedly works...what kind of questions did you expect?

The problem is that both you and quatona are too lazy to actually read the article. If you did, you would find most if not all of your questions answered there. I do not feel obligated to facilitate laziness.
^_^ Like the laziness of not answering the questions put to you?
