  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Am I correct that once we're made a new creation in Christ Jesus we go from being called sinners to Saints in Christ Jesus alone?
We are both.

If we see ourselves as only "righteous," the blackness of sin in us will humble and remind us that we aren't.

We are saints who still sin.

Well, we are saints who sin (1Jn 1:8-10).

No, sinners are so-called in terms of God's Law. In front of God's Law we are thus all sinners no matter what. After believing in Jesus we are no longer under Law and are deemed righteous, it's all because of Jesus Christ. We are both sinners (Law breakers) and saints (deemed righteous by God through Jesus Christ and the New Covenant). We are holy only when we put continuous effort in striving for the likeness of Jesus Christ till we die.

Simul iustus et peccator (both saint and sinner). We're still sinners. We're sinner-saints. The old man and the new man co-exist in the Christian in this life.

In the resurrection that will no longer be the case, but in this mortal life we have to take up our cross and struggle against the flesh.
