Human brain can only distinguish image frames of 0.2 second interval. Anything faster bypasses the frontlobe and goes into the subsconscious mind.

Many movies have been found with subliminal messages.

Take Lion King for example, a harmless innorcent movies, the producer admitted having subliminal messages. And theme song of the movies is an african witchcraft song.

We are what we behold. It's your brain if you want to put all kinds of junk in it.

In his book on depression, Dr. Neil Nedley outlines the harmful effects of TV and movies of today. I am not sure about the frame rate and subliminal messages, I am ignorant of this, but Dr. Nedley presents much research into todays TV entertainment and how it puts you into a hypnotic state similar to someone meditating. By doing this everything you watch bypasses the frontal lobe, which is your brains "moral" center. It analyzes what you see or hear and decides whethere it is good or evil, to put it simply. If this is bypassed than the images going into your brain even if you tell yourself they are bad and just fake, your brain does not perceive this on a subconscios level. Very scary stuff! For humans to be entertained in todays age filmmakers have learned that they must change views at least every 5 seconds which in effect produces this hypnotic state. So you are really going to the movies to be hypnotized and allow whatever you see to pass freely into your brain without being filtered.

Pt--wrote this..Who produces, directs, writes, acts in, and markets or whatever, the vast majority of movies, books, magazines, etc that flood our world today? Are they Christ's? Under His control? If not, then whose agenda is being promoted?

How true this statement is. Consider for a moment Mel Gibson and his movie The Passion. Look at the publicity that that movie generated. ( I rented it and frankly was appauled-but thats personal choice I guess).

Gibson was interviewed hundreds of times and he was made to look like he is very religious man. (Religious yes--righteous no)

Fast forward to just a few months ago when he was arrested for DUI and started making anti-Semetic slurs!
I can only wonder what the athiestic world and other religions must have thought?

Here is an example of why 'nothing theatrical should come into the work' EGW!

In Hollywood it is 'always ALL about the money'--and never kid yourself to think it is ever anything but. They may use the name of Jesus--but He is far from their hearts.

There are some who seem to think that most SDA are destined for being lost due to things like going to the theater, drinking coffee, or listening to contemporary music. Instead of bringing the light of Christ to others, they seek to burden people and keep them out of the kingdom by encouraging them to leave the church.

There are good reasons for why one should abstain from what you speak of. However, you make a very good point. The first focus should always be on Jesus. SELFISHness is the disease of humanity due to sin. The ONLY cure for this disease is the love of Jesus. We cannot expect anyone to become more like Jesus in His example of humility and selfLESSness without His power to bring about this change. Unfortunately this is why many are leaving the church. We must show Jesus first and foremost and the other things will be taken care of as Jesus works in each person's life.

This does not mean to stop speaking out against these things:preach: but in a much more productive way, as Mrs. White did.:)

Some Adventist still think we should not go to the movie theater. That is very unreasonable.

Given the amount of filth and violence and gratituous sex on the movie screen it is quite reasonable.

Back in Ellen White's day, theaters was were prostitutes hung out so that is why she spoke against it.

That's a new one! Never heard it before.

I was under the impression that most SDAs (under age 30 or 40) go to the theater now.

Where'd you get that idea from?

I know that this is going to make some think that I shouldn't post here or be listened to or go to church, but I play lots of video games, including FPS. And in FPS you definitely notice lower frames per second, I need above 50 frames per second to play well.

Because most SDAs that I know that are 30-40 or younger go to the theater. And these are not nominal SDAs that I am referring to, some of them work for the church or are very active in the church. This is why I was wondering if it depends on where you live because it would be unusual for a young SDA person to not go to the theater if he/she lived where the SDAs I refer to live. So I was under the impression that most SDAism was like that.

Hope that made sense

I am getting the idea from some of you that all movies are bad and they will hypnotize you. That seems a little extreme don't you think? It matters what movie you go to see now where you see it when it all comes down to it. I wish Adventists would stop preaching about all these unimportant issues.

So, in other words a very small segment of the population is extrapolated to cover the whole?
