Seven or Eight?
As i said math is used, But probably the machine is going to do the calculations. Lets say we have another small robot alright? And he has small screen on his body, The screen will show the answer of a math problem you gave him. Lets say you gave him 8x1+7(-2x1) he will automatically solve it.
Another example - You built an small machine (not robot) with small screen and 2 buttons, The screen will display by default number 1 - When you click button number 1 it will take the number you currently have and increase it in 1, now if you click on the second button it will reset it to zero.
Button 1 - Thats how it looks inside the code : CN(Current Number) ++ 1
Button 2 - Thats how it looks inside the code : CN -- CN = 0
Thats really basic and simple machine, But i'm just showing you example where math can be used, The machine is always going to do the calculations. Mechanical Engeering includes designing - Machine designing.
Man thats cool, So you are studying Politics?

It ultimately depends on the engineering course you'll choose. Remember that engineering is a science, it has many branches. However as far as I know, maths and physics are paramount in achieving well in engineering.
As long as you have a passion in seeing how things work, I am sure you will excel in engineering. Meanwhile I'll be buried in reading political books, how boring![]()
