Final Nevada Caucus vote count
Mark Wachtler
Briefly explained, Nevada officials postponed the release of the official results repeatedly over the course of 36 hours. With half the state’s vote counted in a mere hour, GOP state leaders attempted to explain that it wasn’t unusual that it would take a day and a half to count the other half. Outrage ensued after the predawn announcement because the decision was made immediately after Texas Congressman Ron Paul won the only precinct counted live on national TV. And Paul won it overwhelmingly, capturing 3 times more votes than any of his rivals, including Mitt Romney.
After winning in one precinct with a staggering 58 percent, Ron Paul supporters assumed that trend would hold up for the rest of Clark County. That was the only county outstanding and with Las Vegas within its borders, it represents 60 percent of the entire state’s vote. Immediately however, a third of Nevada's Caucus ballots suddenly vanished, CNN, Fox News and all other media went black and the entire Republican Party establishment and national media continued to announce Mitt Romney’s overwhelming win.
This morning, and a day and a half later, we awake to find the above final vote count.
Aside from the outrage from Ron Paul supporters who insist it’s incredulous to think that Ron Paul could win by a 3-1 margin in the precinct counted live on TV, but lose so overwhelmingly in the precincts counted behind closed doors, there were other headlines coming out of this weekend’s Nevada Caucus.
For starters, recent cries of fraud and corruption within the party’s leadership have led a number of GOP officials to resign recently, most notably the State Chair presiding over the embarrassing Iowa Caucus earlier this year. After mysteriously announcing Mitt Romney the winner of the state’s nominating vote, they were forced to reverse their decision two weeks later, confirming that former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum had actually won. Many in the Paul camp are wondering if a similar “discovery” will eventually give their candidate the win in Nevada.
