  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

HI THERE,

Yes I had seen tghis Movie on the very First Day First Show, as I am a big Fan of Leonardo Di Caprio..
But there is no psychological insight, no moral insight, just no insight, full stop. And it palls after a while.

You are suggesting, then, that there is no redeeming value to The Wolf of Wall Street? If not, then I'd be less interested in seeing it as a rental.

It was meant to be that way.

Read a review saying the language was even filthier than Scarface/Goodfellas.

That killed it for me.

If you're offended by foul language, that's the least of your problems with this film.

I love this movie but the language is annoying. But the style of the movie and the story being told is taking you that world and swearing like an sailor is apparently part of it. It's the same way with Margin Call.

What gets me is the drugs that he did and not dying from it. If he did just a fraction of what the movie says he did his liver must be fried.

Also how did he manage to avoid HIV especially since he did get the clap on what looks like a regular basis.

For me that movie tells me what NOT to do if I get rich with the exception of the Lambo or Ferrari; I'd certainly get me one of those.

"No redeeming value" is a pretty good description of it, honestly. The outright hedonism and debauchery are so excessive that they're actually funny for a while, but once you get past that, there's not really a whole lot going on. I never could watch the whole thing because after the game of darts that they play with little people goes down, the bottom falls out and it gets boring.

The whole point of the movie is to go nuts with excess. It's supposed to be insanely vulgar. It isn't a movie that hits you in the head with a message or morality. That's why I take it for what it is - a very weird dark comedy that feels like it has almost no structure, but still kind of does. I think that was the perfect way to make this movie, we've seen the more serious ones too many times already.

Recommended for movie lovers, especially Scorsese fans.

I am a fan of Scorsese but this film may stretch the bounds of good taste. My library has it for rental. They only charge $1.50! I am debating...

I like Goodfellas because it shows organized crime for how it is, a great movie adapted from a great biography. It is simply an ugly cut-throat and murderous world, steeped in violence and excess and even the suffering of innocence. I can understand why this film pushes the envelope for many Christians. It is unapologetic without the benefit of a rosy-tinted worldview.

Indeed and it was done that way purposefully because people like him got away with it all the time and still do.

Yep, and Scorsese has never glamourized or romanticized the world of the Mafia either.
