  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I saw The Wicker Man this morning. It was disturbingly terrific! In a word FRIGHTNING. In three more, full of suspense! This is a must see film, twisting and turning every moment with barely enough time to catch your breath before your next gasp of surprise. Possibly Nicolas Cage’s best performance! They will sell you a seat, but all you'll need is the edge!

Stop whatever you are doing and go see The Wicker Man!

Scary White Women. That's what the movie is about.

**SPOILER ALERT* *BOTH OLD AND NEW FILMS*

I thought the main thing about this movie was scary white women. Those first three that he met when he landed on the island. Talk about horrifying. Why are they so horrifying? And the old twins. And the girls in the school. Especially the teacher. This movie is likely to scare me away from white women forever. Ironically, the only one who didn't scare me was Mrs Summersisle, played by Ellen Burstyn. She's way too cool a person to scare anyone.

The original was not about scary white women, but just scary white PEOPLE in general. Pagans off the coast of Scotland (new film is set in US Pacific northwest). The leader was Mister Summersisle, played by the always scary Christopher Lee. It dealt with an island of pagans persecuting a Christian police officer.

My main problem with this new film was the ending. The little speech that Mrs Summersisle gave the police officer at the end of the film. It was written for a low IQ audience and it was just not very effective. The audience could have figured out most of what she revealed on their own. Maybe it was more geared towards the younger viewers understanding it. In the 70's, movies tended to stand on their own.

In the original, Christopher Lee's speech at the end was truly chilling.
