  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

The virtue of goodness.

It almost seems redundant to speak of goodness as a virtue, but it is a virtue, and we ought to talk about it. It seems so many people today prefer to think about other things rather than goodness.

From the scriptures we know that God is good. There is evidence to suggest that God alone is truly good. Yet God calls Christians to live godly and good lives. To be kind and compassionate, to forgive and to help the needy. Our national political life speaks of helping but it seeks the worthy to help and wants to reject the unworthy. I personally, am glad that God does not reject the unworthy. I would have so little to hope for if he did. But here we are in a Christian Forum debating doctrines and practises. Do we stop long enough to edit our posts to make them fit better the call to goodness we have received from Christ?

Saint Paul wrote to Titus instructing him about how and what he should teach to those he was responsible to teach.
Titus 2:1-15 RSV-CE But as for you, teach what befits sound doctrine. 2 Bid the older men be temperate, serious, sensible, sound in faith, in love, and in steadfastness. 3 Bid the older women likewise to be reverent in behavior, not to be slanderers or slaves to drink; they are to teach what is good, 4 and so train the young women to love their husbands and children, 5 to be sensible, chaste, domestic, kind, and submissive to their husbands, that the word of God may not be discredited. 6 Likewise urge the younger men to control themselves. 7 Show yourself in all respects a model of good deeds, and in your teaching show integrity, gravity, 8 and sound speech that cannot be censured, so that an opponent may be put to shame, having nothing evil to say of us. 9 Bid slaves to be submissive to their masters and to give satisfaction in every respect; they are not to be refractory, 10 nor to pilfer, but to show entire and true fidelity, so that in everything they may adorn the doctrine of God our Savior. 11 For the grace of God has appeared for the salvation of all men, 12 training us to renounce irreligion and worldly passions, and to live sober, upright, and godly lives in this world, 13 awaiting our blessed hope, the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ, 14 who gave himself for us to redeem us from all iniquity and to purify for himself a people of his own who are zealous for good deeds. 15 Declare these things; exhort and reprove with all authority. Let no one disregard you.
Take the saint's words to heart and let his advice shape your writing in CH.

God be with you all.

Goodness is that which is beneficial, pleasing to God.

Titus functioned as a pastor/teacher in Crete with authority from Paul to encourage and rebuke (2:15).
