Anyone on this forum that has been through the course "The Truth Project" by Dr. Tackett? I started the course yesterday and completed the first class, and am looking for opinions. The Truth Project

I want nothing to do with anything that is tied to Focus on the Family. The focus is on Christ not the family. Dobson and his ilk will lead you astray.

Thanks for the reply - can you tell me something more specific or give me an example?

Other than the fact that he is a Nazarene and uses psychology as his foundation rather than the Scriptures no. At least not without some resaerch. Oh, and the fact that he will embrace with open arms any and every stripe of religious nonsense as long as they call it "Christian."

Dr. Dobson's reputation is impeccable and as such and on that I would trust that "The Truth Project" would be something worthy of doing.

Is he now a Nazarene, which is OK with me, but the following suggest different. ???

As a professor, Dr. Tackett has taught more than 30 undergraduate and graduate courses at three different institutions, over a 12 year period. He is also an ordained elder in the Presbyterian Church in America. Dr. Tackett holds three earned degrees (D.M., Colorado Technical University; M.S., Auburn University; B.S., Kansas State University).

I've done the Truth Project and own the videos. I cannot recommend it enough.

First, I completely share the concern some of you posted about Dobson. His immersion in Psychology is very troubling, and I completely disagree with some of his theology.

HOWEVER, please note that while Dobson supports the Truth Project, he had nothing to do with it. It is taught by Dr. Del Tackett, who is an ordained PCA elder. If you do a little research on Dr. Tackett I think you'll find he's a fascinating man with solid theology, and a gifted teacher.

The Truth Project basically compares relativistic world views with God's view and challenges us to examine where secular worldviews have crept into our thinking. The tagline he uses is "Do you really believe that what you believe is really real?". Not that it's extremely indepth stuff. But it does get the average pew warmer outside of their comfort zones and forces us to examine ourselves and what we believe.

Is there an excerpt that is legal to post for us to view?

I've found very little detail on the Internet about it. Because of that I was wary of getting involved with it initially. However, seeing that R.C. Sproul and Ravi Zacharias contributed to it encouraged me that it was worth checking out. I would love it if they had put more on the website because it really doesn't tell you much. You could go through Dr. Tackett's blog and see what your impressions are of him. The other thing you could do is check around churches in your area and see if any have the video series that you could borrow.

OK, the project interests me greatly. I know with R.C. indorsing it that will gather in the Calvinist and Reform group and because Dobson is not that will harness folk like me. Not sure where RZ is on theology but if the same as N. Giesler he would be a moderated. None the less and setting aside these differences I am sure the material is friendly to all Conservatives of the faith.

I went to the website and looked at the objective and at the lesson overviews. The Gospel was not mentioned. I would stay away.

Let me clarify.

While there is probably nothing wrong with the teachings, the premise laid out as the reason for the teaching is where the fault lies.

They claim that the purpose is to make a difference in our culture. While exploring different worldviews is important, that is not what will effect change. And I am not certain that we are even supposed to have that as our objective. Proclaiming the Gospel should be our objective, and discipling believers on how to live a cross-centered life should be our goal.

Now, if the videos address this, then fine. But I saw nothing in the lesson descriptions that led me to believe that this is the case.

Back in April my Pastor was given The Truth Project by another minister and he asked if I would view it and lead the group. I’m not a fan of Dr. Dobson’s methods but Del Tackett is listed on Summit Ministries: Home as a course leader, Summit was highly recommended so I viewed the DVD’s.

Between DVD’s I stumbled across a Summit textbook that contained an excellent Worldview Chart couldn’t see anything different from the textbook and the what was being presented on the Truth Project.

It is a good program and would recommend it to anyone interested in dealing with different philosophies, ideologies and cultic beliefs.

I know people who won't check it out because they're afraid it's Calvinist and people who won't check it out because of Dobson. Too bad on both counts as it does not get into soteriology and Dobson was not involved in the project.

I hear ya. That was a concern of mine as well from the limited info on the website. But it is definitely a lot more than just examining different world views, and yes I would say it's quite biblical. I'm not a fan of most of the programs, series, movements etc. that are working their way through churches these days. But this one is worth doing, IMHO.

After 3 lessons, I can honestly recommend this study to all of you. I'd done some research, and there is a compelling reason for The Truth Project. According to the Barna study, Only 9% of Americans have a correct biblical worldview. http://www.rockbridgeseminary.org/learning-upgrades/few-christians-have-biblical-worldview-barna

Here is a link to see for yourself on The Truth Project. I encourage you to look youtube to see more on The Truth Project.

What are the issues pertaining to Dr.James Dobson?, Why do They Not fit with the Calvanists?....Dave
It's not just Calvinists who have issues with Dobson. And I can't speak for everyone, but what concerns me about him is all the humanistic modern psychology he uses. Yes psychology has some uses. But much of it simply does not mesh with a Scriptural understanding of God and man. Frankly, I think it clouds his judgment on a number of issues.

The best source of information I could find online is available on www.youtube.com. You'll have to filter a bit to pick out the real course content, but if you use this search then you'll get close to the course snipets "The Truth Project lesson".
