The claim was that birth rates were dropping. Total population increases are related but are not direct indicators of birth rates.

The problem with overpopulation is that the wrong type of people are being born. In the industrialed country- we have birth control and women work and put off having children. When they decide to have them (which they can now do)- sometime it is too late- or sometimes that don't have the "oops- one last baby".

In the third world- they don't have birth control and the men like to rape the women- especially the young girls- so they start having children earlier- and have more time to have them. Since the generations are closer- they also have more alive at any one time.

The most effective form of birth control is education. It is a well-known fact that the more education a woman has, the less children she will bear.

You dont have to be an insane environmentalist to see how that silly that suggestion is. First, rainforest land is extremely expensive; second, it is not economically sustainable. For fiscal reasons, the idea isnt very good.

And for practical reasons, such as the fact that the land is very poor quality for commercial farming and grazing, you couldnt feed anyone. And 8 months of rain would kill virtually all farm crops. So it isnt a very good idea.

Its just not worth the cost to build farmlands, not even in theory.


If you want a way to end world hunger in a way that fiscal conservatives can appreciate, then pressure governents to stop giving agricultural subsidies to developed nations, because there is no way Latin or African nations can compete. Everybody wins.
