  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Friday 12-20-19, Kislev 23, 5780 6th. day of the weekly cycle, 89th. Fall day,

The transfiguration of Jesus is a story told in the New Testament when Jesus is transfigured and becomes radiant in glory upon a mountain. The Synoptic Gospels (Matthew Seventeen:1–8, Mark Nine:2–8, Luke Nine:28–36) describe it, and the Second Epistle of Peter also refers to it (2 Peter One:16–18). It has also been hypothesized that the first chapter of the Gospel of John alludes to it (John One:14).
In these accounts, Jesus and three of his apostles, Peter, James, and John, go to a mountain.

Mark Nine:2-13 (KJV)

The Transfiguration:

2 And after six days Jesus taketh with him Peter, and James, and John, and leadeth them up into an high mountain apart by themselves: and he was transfigured before them.

3 And his raiment became shining, exceeding white as snow; so as no fuller on earth can white them.

4 And there appeared unto them Elias with Moses: and they were talking with Jesus.

5 And Peter answered and said to Jesus, Master, it is good for us to be here: and let us make three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias.

6 For he wist not what to say; for they were sore afraid.

7 And there was a cloud that overshadowed them: and a voice came out of the cloud, saying, This is my beloved Son: hear him.

8 And suddenly, when they had looked round about, they saw no man any more, save Jesus only with themselves.

9 And as they came down from the mountain, he charged them that they should tell no man what things they had seen, till the Son of man were risen from the dead.

10 And they kept that saying with themselves, questioning one with another what the rising from the dead should mean.

11 And they asked him, saying, Why say the scribes that Elias must first come?

12 And he answered and told them, Elias verily cometh first, and restoreth all things; and how it is written of the Son of man, that he must suffer many things, and be set at nought.

13 But I say unto you, That Elias is indeed come, and they have done unto him whatsoever they listed, as it is written of him.

Love always, Walter and Debbie

So, what point are you trying to put forth. The Transfiguration was a vision, like a dream, and not reality. Christ was not yet glorified. Matthew says it best.

Matt. 17:9 "And as they came down from the mountain, Jesus charged them, saying, Tell the vision to no man, until the Son of man be risen again from the dead."

Elijah came in John the Baptist in type/spirit only. Luke 1:17 "And he shall go before him in the spirit and power of Elias, to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just; to make ready a people prepared for the Lord."

The same will hold true for the end-time manifestation of Elijah: A movement of faith centered around the two-witnesses.

An amazing event, according to the OP and scriptures.

"I tell you the truth, some who are standing here will not taste death before they see the Son of Man coming in his kingdom. After six days Jesus took with him Peter, James and John the brother of James, and led them up a high mountain by themselves. There he was transfigured before them. His face shone like the sun, and his clothes became as white as the light. Just then there appeared before them Moses and Elijah, talking with Jesus." (Matt 16:28-17:3)

NOTE: According to Luke 9:31, Moses and Elijah were decked out with brightness too.

According to Matt 16:28, Mark 9:1, Luke 9:27, and 2Pet 1:16, the vision was a preview of Jesus' arrival when he returns to rule the world.

No doubt the rapture will frighten quite a few people, but I should think that Jesus' return will scare people even more because he's not coming back alone. According to Jude 1:14, an immense cloud of thousands upon thousands of holy people, gleaming with light just like Moses and Elijah, will accompany him. Now that is going to be really, really terrifying for whoever's left on Earth after the awful events depicted in the book of Revelation.
