Implacable steel upon steel, grimly shining false light on wretches blindfolded ....... oh, help those fingers, weak with pounding ....... radiance shines all around ....... take it ....... take it ...... the sands of time run low.

he stumbled and fell
on vine-crusted leaves
of old and days gone by

weathered they were
but not nearly so
as his soul
that had forgotten how to cry

what was it that drove him so
weary and worn
ignoring the scorn
of those blinded by fear.

he trudged along
desperately trying
to recapture his song
that faded into the land
of yesteryear

a tragedy it was
but yet not so
for in the mist
of dreariness ahead

he saw but a glimpse
of a long-ago glint
of life
that called out so clearly

it grew stronger
and he was no longer
mired in the mist
of darkness and dread

for light shone forth
with gathering force
and banished all the shadows away.

lifted from the whirlpool of sadness
in sight of those who taunted
steadily he rose
his progress undaunted
by their seething snarling madness.
