Psalm 119

5 Oh, that my ways were directed
To keep Your statutes!

12 Blessed are You, O Lord!
Teach me Your statutes.

The statutes of the Lord direct us in the Way.
Like David, and as Jesus taught, we must ask!
"Teach me Your statutes."

What is a statute, and how does it differ from
a commandment, a testimony, a precept, a judgment?

a commandment, a testimony, a precept, a judgment?
statute-[H2706]=khok>to apportion, set an amount, quota

First use:

Genesis 47:

22 Only the land of the priests bought he not; for the priests had a portion assigned them of Pharaoh, and did eat their portion which Pharaoh gave them: wherefore they sold not their lands.

23 Then Joseph said unto the people, Behold, I have bought you this day and your land for Pharaoh: lo, here is seed for you, and ye shall sow the land.

24 And it shall come to pass in the increase, that ye shall give the fifth part unto Pharaoh, and four parts shall be your own, for seed of the field, and for your food, and for them of your households, and for food for your little ones.

25 And they said, Thou hast saved our lives: let us find grace in the sight of my lord, and we will be Pharaoh's servants.

26 And Joseph made it a statute over the land of Egypt unto this day, that Pharaoh should have the fifth part, except the land of the priests only, which became not Pharaoh's.

Second use:

Exodus 6:5
And the officers of the children of Israel, which Pharaoh's taskmasters had set over them, were beaten, and demanded, "Wherefore have ye not fulfilled your quota in making brick both yesterday and today, as heretofore?

It's not just the statues that are His righteous way of living

Psa 119:172 My tongue shall speak of Your word,
For all Your commandments are righteousness

God has always had commandments, laws and statues man is meant to live by before formally writing the Ten Commandments by the finger of God engraved on stone Exo 31:18 Exo 32:16 and Moses handwriting all the other statues, laws, ordinances etc. Neh 9:13 Deut 31:24-26

God's people has always kept them
Gen 26:5 because Abraham obeyed My voice and kept My charge, My commandments, My statutes, and My laws.”

And do so until the end of time...

Rev 14: 12 Here is the patience of the saints; here are those who keep the commandments of God and the faith of Jesus.

Sin separated us from God Isa 59:2 which is breaking God's law 1 John 3:4 James 2:10-12 but through faith and love and His power John 14:15-18 we can be reconciled.

Rev 22:14 Blessed are those who do His commandments, that they may have the right to the tree of life, and may enter through the gates into the city.

Thank you for your very good response.
I have changed the title to avoid further confusion.
The point of the OP was to distinguish statutes from
other areas of Torah.
I hope you will read the posts.
Blessings.

There is not a list that I am aware of that clearly identifies all the Statues in scripture. The only law that God numbered and told us to diligently keep is the Ten Commandments. Exo 34:28 Deut 4:13 Exo 32:16 Not saying we are not to keep others laws or statues, but I believe if one was keeping the Ten Commandments the way Jesus taught them- which is greater than the letter (not lessor) Matthew 5:19-30 one would be keeping everything God asks.

But if you find the scripture that clearly shows all the statues, please let us know.

This requires a study for the Hebrew word that is translated statute.
This is what the OP is applied to, and how to apply this knowledge
under New Testament Grace, as the word is quite valid for us.
Here is another OT example, before I begin bringing in NT applications
for the church. The most obvious being the tithe, and the way some
churches incorporate that statute in their governance.

statute-[H2706]=khok>to apportion, set an amount, quota

Leviticus 10:
12 And Moses spoke to Aaron, and to Eleazar and Ithamar, his sons who were left:
“Take the grain offering that remains of the offerings made by fire to the Lord,
and eat it without leaven beside the altar; for it is most holy.
13 You shall eat it in a holy place, because it is your portion and your sons’ portion,
of the sacrifices made by fire to the Lord; for so I have been commanded.
14 The breast of the wave offering and the thigh of the heave offering
you shall eat in a clean place, you, your sons, and your daughters with you;
for they are your portion and your sons’ portion, which are given
from the sacrifices of peace offerings of the children of Israel.
15 The thigh of the heave offering and the breast of the wave offering
they shall bring with the offerings of fat made by fire, to offer as
a wave offering before the Lord. And it shall be yours and your sons’ with you,
by a statute forever, as the Lord has commanded.

I'm not a Hebrews expert, but I think statue means this when being applied to the context you are using (with the law)

chuqqah: something prescribed, an enactment, statute
Original Word: חֻקָּה
Part of Speech: Noun Feminine
Transliteration: chuqqah
Phonetic Spelling: (khook-kaw')
Definition: something prescribed, an enactment, statute

Psalm 119:16
HEB: בְּחֻקֹּתֶ֥יךָ אֶֽשְׁתַּעֲשָׁ֑ע לֹ֭א
NAS: I shall delight in Your statutes; I shall not forget
KJV: I will delight myself in thy statutes: I will not forget
INT: your statutes shall delight shall not

I could see how it could apply to tithing. Something we should do.
Thanks. I see it is the same word under study, in a feminine form.

chuqqâh, khook-kaw'; feminine of H2706, and meaning substantially the same:
appointed, custom, manner, ordinance, site, statute.

Ezekiel 36:27
I will put My Spirit within you and cause you to walk in my statutes
and My ordinances you shall keep and do.

God's Spirit within us contains God's nature and God's nature corresponds to God's law. Because we have God's nature within us 2 Peter 1:4 we are partakers of His will to bring us from glory to glory in each of our lives. We are able to keep His law by walking in His revealed will within, according to our regenerated spirit, which is indwelt by the Holy Spirit. Romans 8:4, Galatians 5:16,22-23

God's Spirit within us contains God's nature and God's nature corresponds to God's law.
The focus of the OP being statutes, which were directives for apportioning certain elements
in the natural. The psalmist shows us to ask and pray to be taught the Lord's statutes.
For example, we are instructed by the Spirit in the apostolic doctrine
:

Romans 12:3 For I say, through the grace given to me, to everyone who is among you,
not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think soberly,
as God has dealt to each one a measure of faith

This serves as a clear spiritual statute for the Body of Christ, as it speaks of a portion
for each member. The Holy Spirit does not force us to comply with this statute, and
it seems to be widely disregarded in clergy centered religion.

Many churches utilize tithing in their finances, which comes from the Law.
This contradicts the apostolic doctrine for us to be led by the Spirit.

2 Corinthians 8:7 So let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly
or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver.

Another doctrine of the Church that is sorely lacking in the acknowledgment
as a statute is for every member to contribute actively to the whole as the Spirit leads.

Ephesians 4:16 From whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that
which every joint supplies, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part,
making increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love.

Colossians 3:
16
Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing
one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.
17 And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks
to God the Father through Him.

Amen.
Statutes of apportionment found in the OT as described in the early posts, carry over into
the NT as the work of the Spirit that should manifest in a mature congregation.

Psalms 16:5 Lord You alone are my portion and my cup. You make my lot secure.

Portion is inheritance and like Isaac we also are children of the Promise. Yet like Jacob we all have maturing to get through.

Ephesians 4:7 but to each one of us grace has been given as Christ apportioned it.

John 1:16 out of His fullness we have all received grace upon grace.

Yes! The apostolic doctrine directs us to apply every gift of every member
to the perfection of the Church.
