  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I didn't know of this until it was mentioned in another post. However, it was mentioned that the ELCA seems to be very liberal when it comes to confirmation.

I don't know about all of this, but when I was in confirmation, it was EXACTLY learning about the small catechism and this whole Martin Luther's explanations starting with "what does this mean?" We read that and did work on that.

I know that the youth that have been confirmation age have also had to learn things from the small catechism. Then, when I look at Augsburg Fortress or any of the church's sites when looking at the youth ministry positions information, the stuff that's used for confirmation has always been based upon the small catechism as well.

What has your experience been in such situations?

It's been awhile since I went through confirmation, but I remember that we read the small catechism during it. Unfortunately, I don't remember how deep we got into it, as a lot of the people in my confirmation class were only there because their parents made them.

Sorry if I wasn't too helpful!
