@Toro , you're missing out, my friend. The Pokémon games are terrific rpgs with vast environments, loads of charm, amd an insane amount of things to do.
My favorite would probably be either Chrono Trigger or this one game I cant for the life of me remember(It was an obscure game for super nintendo.)
Chrono Cross was sadly a horrible game.... I DID like the intro though.
So, what obscure SNES game is it thats my favorite that I can't remember?
Yeah, the novelty of Chrono Cross eventually wore off for a lot of us, I think. While I will be fair and say that it's graphics and music score were next to fantastic overall, I must come to admit that it just pales so greatly in comparison to Chrono Trigger in terms of story and characters. Most of the characters in Cross were utterly throwaway; the battle system, while okay overall, had a glaring flaw with the use of elements, and the story just got way too confusing after a while. To this day I'm not sure who was on what side (and it wasn't in a good way like in Final Fantasy Tactics, which was thought-provoking with its ambiguity on who was good and who was evil), or what the "bad guys" even really wanted to accomplish. There were just too many terms for characters, places, and ideas spouted out all over the map by about the halfway point of Cross.
But still, despite those glaring issues, I can't say it was a total waste. But it is overall a poor game. I wish more Chrono Trigger fanboys could see that. .... Or, perhaps it's that the ones who still hail Cross as a great game today that never played Trigger, thus they can't see how Cross is truly inferior with such a great game as Trigger being the benchmark. Probably also the same kind of people who think the story of Bioshock Infinite is "smart".
... And the main heroine of Chrono Cross is friggin' annoying. Kidd? I can't stand her. I wish that other dude Lynx (or Serge, or Serge's father, or FATE, or whoever else he is supposed to be) had actually succeeded in killing her. Unless you know something I don't, Toro (and it's likely I missed it because the storyline is so confusing), I can't believe how Square just brushed over that eeny, meeny little plot point of Lynx GUTTING KIDD WITH HER OWN KNIFE, and yet she not only survives with no explanation apparent, but also is still seen tagging along with him in Serge's body later, trying to kill Serge in Lynx's body, as though she doesn't remember the scene where she is stabbed by the very dude she is siding with as he urges her to kill someone else. I'm like, chick, do you honestly not know these two guys switched bodies? Even if you didn't, you are STILL TAGGING ALONG WITH THE PERSON YOU LOOKED STRAIGHT IN THE EYES AS HE STABBED YOU, AS THOUGH IT NEVER HAPPENED.
It's amazing that these are the same guys who wrote Final Fantasy IX and Chrono Trigger's stories.
.... Man, that was a sudden and unexpected rant on my part.
Well, maybe thats what it was....... I just remember hating it having the Chrono name and being that disappointing.
Ya know Swanny you seem to have played all the games I did growing up.

This is so true I like how she remembers exposition dumps but being mortally wounded and she draws a blank! I would have so prefered having Harley over her (that clown girl).Yeah, the novelty of Chrono Cross eventually wore off for a lot of us, I think. Oh dear me... I can totally agree with that for a lot of people in the online gaming community... if you can call it even that!

And on top of that remember all the cool unit skills chrono trigger has? well chrono cross had 48 playable characters and had like what 9 of them? And the toughest fight in that game against that evil sword thing? well it has an AI loop you can expliot ifyou just cast fire spells at him he wont be able to attack except for the first turn.

Yeah final fantasy kind down spiraled into mediocrity and then even lower I only played 13 once and I couldnt finish it. I was trapped in a hallway! I got sick of the hallway and just quit. I mean is the entire game like that? can i finally reach a world map or something? And the scary thing is? This is actually not the worst piece of writing Square ever did.
... The single worst plot point they ever completely muddled up would have to be in Final Fantasy XIII, where the protagonist's urgency and complexity of the villains' motivations for the first two-thirds of the story all but hinged on the fact that the Fal'CIE (stupid name to even type, much less say aloud) could not communicate its intentions to the protagonists, causing them to constantly disagree with each other scene after scene about what it was the Fal'CIE had destined them to do - and should they fail to complete the purpose in time, whatever it is, they would turn into zombies or something, mind you - and yet this whole time ... this WHOLE TIME, it is revealed in a critical scene that the Fal'CIE could talk in perfectly understandable English.
They were desperate to return the world to nothing so they could hopefully be brought to the god who made it and communicate with him/her ... but obviously didn't find it important enough to communicate in a few simple sentences to the protagonists.
WORST. FACEPALM. EVER.

Sadly no, the game in its horrid entirety is set up in a hallway, as you so eloquently put it
Well, you'll have to elaborate for me. Can you remember the story? That would greatly help.
I really gotta ask, though, Toro, how much could you have possibly liked this game if you don't even remember its name?
