Also, the episode when Arty Ziff gets rich and he wants to spend a weekend with Marge, and offers a million dollars to do so. Homer asks

"How much sex will be involved? Cuz if its some.....!!! *homer growl*"

And the epsiode when Lisa gets scared of the next door cementary, and they take her to a psychiatrist. They are asked to show a tape of her as a child, and they only have one. Homer puts it in and Bart has done something bad again, but instead of saying "Why you little!" and choking him, he says "Why you very little!"

and another one

Marge talking to Otto- Dont talk about S-E-X in front of the C-H-I-L-D-R-E-N
Otto - Sex Chauldron? That place is still open!

I don't know where they live...I think it is a secret on purpose!!! That was they can icorperate a lot of things in one place. Springfield (where the Simpson's live...wherever that may be) seems to be a small town....but then it has EVERYTHING!

I love this show. This is the only show that I watch on TV for the most part (besides an occational Oprah or Dr. Phil...). It is fairly clean, though sometimes it seems that they are getting a bit more "dirty" as the seasons progress....I hope it stays how it is...

The short answer is that Springfield does not exist. It doesn't have a real state, and the fact that it has no state is nothing more than a running gag. Springfield is more like "Anytown, USA". It's as if all of America was compressed into a single town, or a single state. Springfield is everywhere and nowhere.

I have to agree with the above. Springfield is like an Everyman of towns.

They live in Kentucky...though a fictional version of it. The only way you can know for sure is to watch the episode that spoofed Behind the Music and in the intro, the announcer says "this small town kentucky family...."

They don't live in Kentucky. See this.

They live in Kuntuky, (cant spell >_<) it said on the "Behind the Laughs" episode

See the above link.

My favourite episode is entitled "The Father, The Son, & The Holy Guest Star" (aired May 15, 2005). Bart gets expelled from Springfield Elementary, so Homer and Marge send him to a RC parochial school because it was the cheapest private school. Bart and Homer then want to become Roman Catholic, and a Marge opposes the idea so they begin competing for Bart to choose a religion. At the end of the show Bart, being fed up, says that Protestants and Roman Catholics are both Christians and it doesn't matter because the stupid little differences are smaller the big stupid similarities.

That episode should be required watching for all who post in General Theology.

Haven't really watched it in the past few years. Lisa is my favorite character though. I would have said they live in the state of insanity myself. They are coming up on the final years of the show I am sorry to say and I speculate here that THE GRIM REAPER will come along and say that he made a big mistake not taking Homer as a boy. He goes back in time and changes histroy. Bart,Lisa and Maggie aren't born .Marge does not marry Homer , Barney doesn't become a drunk and passses the HARVARD LAW CLASSES.etc...

Proof? No state's capital city is called "Capital City". No state has ever had this flag. No state's motto is "Not just another state". And that's just the tip of the iceberg. There is an enormous number of geographical contradictions between episodes which make it impossible for Springfield to actually exist in any real American state.

One episode they did was a spinoff of VH1's Behind The Music and in that episode they said that the Simpsons live in northern Kentucky.

My favorite Simpsons quote is from the episode when Homer becomes the conductor of Springfield's first monorail. The monorail goes out of control and Marge calls Homer to tell him she's found a scientist who can help.

Marge: Homer! There's someone here who can help you...
Homer: Is it Batman?
Marge: No, he's a scientist.
Homer: Batman's a scientist?!
Marge: It's not Batman!
