Nai gritted her teeth when she heard the news. "Get out to my ranch, by all means! And tell Conni the ranch is hers if I do not return."

"What?" Nai had met Roxanne in the street.

Nai's eyes glittered dangerously, and she fired the pistol three times as fast as it could be triggered. "If you don't want to fight, ride. I've just given the signal for all honest men to come to the aid of good."

A deputy appeared in the doorway of the saloon, and raised his rifle to his shoulder. A moment of silence, then Nai aimed and fired in one instant. The deputy dropped out of sight, clutching his scarlet shirtfront.

"Dan Starless! Get out here! And Dornie! I want to speak to you, you lying, tresspassing horse-killer and murderer! I don't care if you kill me, but I'm hunting blood and it so happens to be yours! If you call yourself brave, then ready yourselves to die at the hand of a woman!"

Eaton ran into the jail. Three men were in it. Eaton's eyes were burning with anger. One of the men reached for their riffle.
"I wouldn't do that if I were you." Eaton said, drawing his pistol. He motioned for the three of them to stand against the wall.
"If you move even a hair, I'll blow your brains out." Eaton said. One drew his pistol and turned, but soon was on the floor in a puddle of blood. The others did the same, but they also were on the floor. Eaton ran outside and met Nai in the street. One depute ran in behind Eaton, without Eaton knowing it. A shot rang out behind him. Eaton turned. No one was there, accept for a dead depute. Eaton was glad some honest men were coming for the fight.

Delia fell to her knees in shock. It was too much to take. Roxanne was there to comfort her. She helped Delia to the bed. Delia's face was soaked with tears, and her eyes were red.
"Oh, you didn't need this. I shouldn't have told you." Roxanne said, sitting next to her.
"No, Roxanne. I'm glad you did. Better I know now, than later. "

Delia cried herself to sleep. Altough it didn't do her much good. Sleeping was not at all peacefull, or comforting. Delia found herself waking up three or four times.

Delia gave up on trying to sleep, and got out of bed. It was dawn, and she thought she heard gunfire in town. She looked out her window, and indeed heard gunfire. Delia still couldn't believe that Jake was actually dead. It didn't seem possible. He was to fast with his guns to be dead.

Something was up. Delia sat at the window, trying to think of what could be going on. Roxanne kept insisting that Jake was dead, but Delia thought otherwise.

Roxanne rode back into town, ready to help Nai and Eaton. When she got there, she noticed many of the men of the town were fighting along with Nai and Eaton. Some were on rooftops, other behind wagons. Roxanne took a place on a roof. She waited before shooting. She studdied the ones who were on Starless' side and the ones against Starless.

Roxanne was to wrapped up in what was going on bellow, she didn't even think to look behind her. Someone was coming up behind her, ready to shoot. Roxanne heard a, "Yeeehaw!" behind her. She turned in time to see one of Starless' men, get kicked in the head, and then thrown over the roof. Roxanne was shocked.
"Jake?"
Jake looked up at her.
"Hey Roxanne! Having fun?" he said, getting his two pistols loaded.
"Where have you been?" she asked. Jake looked at her.
"Playing dead." he said, firing at Starless and his men.

Nai lifted her rifle again, and it barked harshly, kicking back against her shoulder. Starless' men had suddenly dropped from sight, leaving three men behind. In all, there were four men dead, and another five wounded badly. Nai approached one of the wounded men, mopping his forehead and checking his wounds. It was easy to see they would be fatal. His head rolled to the side as he looked up at her, his tongue fumbling on the words.

"Why . . . are you helping me . . . ?" He was one of the outlaws, shot high up in the body.

"I believe all men can change."

"Not . . . Starless. He's plumb . . . full of . . . devil."

"You will be all right. Don't worry."

"No . . . Shaw, he . . . shoot . . . fast. But there's someone . . . else. Paid . . . them . . . run . . . town. He's . . . . " His body went limp, and Nai shut his eyes with her fingers, looking thoughtfully at the tracks left by the outlaw's horses.

She got to her feet and went to the other wounded, helping them. The men of the town were now digging graves for the dead men on Boot Hill. She spotted Jake, and her eyes widened. He was alive, then? She would have gone, but she was worried about her ranch. Lighting a shuck, she hit the saddle hard and Excaliber took off, hooves thrumming the ground.

The trail dipped down into a hollow, with trees on either side. A stream ran through the bottom. As Excaliber jumped the creek, she lost her balence and jerked sideways. The angry whap of a bullet into the trees warned her, and she urged Excaliber forwards, but she felt the impact of two bullets, knocking her from the saddle as Excaliber raced on, terrified by the scent of blood.

The last thing Nai saw before darkness closed in was a man in a dark sombrero, riding a grulla. He reached down and dragged her into the brush, cleaning up all signs of her blood and brushing out his tracks before he rode off to collect his bounty.

It was night over Silver Moon.

Hey everyone! I hope you had a happy New Year!

Jake had met up with Eaton, with Roxanne close behind. Eaton and Jake made a run for some horses, while Roxanne got hers. They, somehow, managed to get back to the ranch, without being seen. Jake was glad no moon had come out that night. Jake went to check up on Delia imediatly after they had arrived.

Delia was sitting at her window, drifting in and out of being asleep. She heard footsteps running up the stairs and thought that maybe it was Eaton coming up to confirm Jake's death. Delia looked up and gasped.
"Jake!"
Delia stood and ran into Jakes open arms.
"I knew it! I knew you were alive!" she exclaimed.
"I'm gone for a day, and you're already walking better. My word, you heal fast." Jake said smiling.

 

[Grimr]

Well now isn't this a happy reunion James said sneering at his quarry. Who are you asked Jake. Lets just say i'm a hired gun for an old friend of yours a friend that want's you and your brother brought back to California alive or dead. Who are you really Eaton asked angrily. My name is no importance all you need to worry about is how you are going to California the easy way is to just surrender or the hard way which is to come there dead rest assured I could kill you both right now and still get my money but I prefer live so I won't have your blood on my hands. So what's it going to be?

Oooo! The things I could do with my characters at this point! *Takes a deep breath.* Which idea should I choose from? I know! I know! I really like it when one of my characters dies!

Jake looked at Eaton, and slowly put his hand on his gun. Eaton shook his head.
"Sorry sir, but we just got back from California. We'd like to stay here."
"Well that's too bad. Cause you're going either way. It don't matter."
Jake was about ready to pull his gun. He had to be quick. He stepped in front of Delia, so she wouldn't get shot again.

Roxanne looked into the room. She had one chance. She pulled her gun out of it's holster and cocked it. She took a deep breath. When the right time came, she'd make a run for it.

Eaton looked at Jake. He was going to shoot. Eaton shook his head. Jake kept his hand on his gun.
"I'd would, uh, take my hand off of that gun there boy. That is if you want to live."
Jake pulled his gun at the same time James did. Things seemed to go in slow motion from then on. Jake's gun locked and wouldn't fire. He knew his other one was empty. Eaton went for his gun, as James pulled the triger on his gun. There was a scream. Someone suddenly bolted into the room, and jumped in the way of the shot, that had meant to kill Jake. Eaton pulled his gun and aimed it at James.
"Don't move." Eaton said. He looked to his right, and saw that Roxanne had been shot.

A blazing white light filled her senses, enveloping her mind. It took Nai a moment to distinguish it for what it was -- the sunrise. She tried to move, but soon gave up. Pain burned a swath through her senses, and her shoulder throbbed mercilessly. She didn't know where she was hit, but she had to get out -- get somewhere. Get help. Her horse was probably even now at the ranch, empty-saddled. Perhaps someone would come looking for her, but she did not think so.

She tried to call for help, but all that escaped was a hoarse groan. Her throat was parched, and no water was nearby. She tried to clear some of the treebranches off of her, but she soon gave up trying. She shut her eyes and let darkness overwhelm her. She gave up, ceasing to struggle. She had given up because she'd lost hope. She would probably die here, in this little ravine, with no help and no life.

Oh, I'm gonna cry.

Eaton kept his pistol aimed at James. James slowly backed out of the room. Eaton shut the door and locked it. He looked at Roxanne. Jake checked for a pulse. He looked at Eaton and shook his head. Eaton ran outside, mounted his horse and followed James.

Eaton was riding for a while, when he saw someone laying on the ground. He dismounted. He gasped when he discovered it was Nai. Eaton checked for a pulse. She was alive. Eaton took out his canteen, and slowly gave her some water.

Nai felt the heat of the sun being blocked, and she tried to open her eyes, but could not. It seemed all a passing dream . . . the wagon train across the continant, the killings, the ranch . . . even Silvermoon. She tried to force herself to think, but all she could do was nothing.

Then there was a gentle press at her wrist, and she tried to say something, but she couldn't form the words. A heavy weight in her shoulder and low down on her right side seemed to drag her down, and she could feel the wet stickiness of blood on her neck.

God, don't let him think I'm dead! Lord! her prayer was lost in the confused whispers of her mind, and she allowed the coolness of the water to sooth her. Then she blacked out again.

She felt herself being lifted, and her head swam. Then, she felt what was closest to her lifeblood beneath her -- a horse. She sighed and tried to grasp the mane, but the horse shied and she almost slipped from the saddle. She couldn't even keep her eyes open, much less try and guide the beast. Blood everywhere, she didn't know where it was coming from. It seemed that she was cut everywhere. Conni would know what to do, or Roxanne. Maybe even Delia, if she was well enough.

She didn't know why death always seemed so dramatic in films. She'd killed at least one man, maybe two with her pistol, and both had passed away like the breeze among the trees. They came to the west in search of excitement, money or land, and they were gone before they had a chance. Suddenly, Nai had a great loathing for killing.

The horse jogged her, and something inside of her turned over, and she lost consciousness.

Eaton rode slowly back to the ranch. Nai had to get help soon. There was no time to go after James. Once Eaton reached the ranch, he carried Nai inside and yelled for Conni.
"I have no skill in doctoring someone." Eaton said, laying Nai on a bed. He carried Roxanne's body outside, and burried her, with Jake's help.

*sniff* Yes, it's sad. But Roxanne, for me, was getting in the way. At least she died honorably.

Nai groaned slightly, and Conni rushed to help her. "What do I do?" she almost shrieked, totally at a loss. Delia rushed from the house and knelt by Nai's side, touching the wounds and looking up at Conni.

"I'd say she's got about a twenty per cent chance of surviving."

Conni almost swooned. Clutching the doorframe, she stared wildly around. "We need a doctor!"

"There's no doctor that will treat her," Eaton said flatly.

I have a maijor prayer request. A close friend of ours was in a car accident, and she was killed. Her younger sister was just in a car accident, about a year a go and God did some maijor miracles in her. And now the family has lost thier eldest. Pray for her husband, and her mom, dad and sister. Pray that they will have strength at this time.
