We light this second candle for Christ is the one of whom the prophets foretold. May we repent of our sins and evermore be ready for the coming again of our Savior and Lord Jesus Christ.

YouTube - O Come, O Come Emmanuel - Methodist Hymn

Merciful God, who sent your messengers the prophets to
preach repentance and prepare the way for our salvation:
Give us grace to heed their warnings and forsake our sins,
that we may greet with joy the coming of Jesus Christ our
Redeemer; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy
Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.
[Book of Common Prayer]

Come, Lord Jesus, Come! Amen.

Thanks for that. It struck me today how incredible it is to think of the number of people reading exactly the same Bible passages and reflecting on exactly the same things today (I know it happens most weeks, but it hit me today).

The Two Collects for the 2nd Sunday of Advent according to The Methodist Worship Book;

God of all holiness,
your promises stand unshaken through all generations
and you lift up all who are burdened and brought low:
renew our hope in you,
as we wait for the coming in glory of Jesus Christ,
our Judge and our Saviour,
who is alive and reigns with you,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, world without end. Amen

God of all time and space,
who are we, that you should come to us?
Yet you have visited your people
and redeemed us in your Son.
As we prepare to celebrate his birth,
make our hearts leap for joy at the sound of your word
and move us by your Spirit
to bless your wonderful works.
We ask this through him whose coming is certain,
whose day draws near,
even your Son, Jesus Christ our Saviour. Amen

Ever since doing my devotions last Advent by following the lectionary, I have really come to appreciate that. It helps me feel apart of a BIG community, not just in my little church.
