Can anyone enlighten me as to what this is exactly? Is this the fire for ever and ever? Or does it mean death as in the end?

Revealation 20:14 Then39 Death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death--the lake of fire. 20:15 If40 anyone's name41 was not found written in the book of life, that person42 was thrown into the lake of fire.

God Bless

From the way I understand it, you die two times regardless of whom you are:

Believer:
Death 1 - (Spiritual) when you accept Christ into your life and allow your old sinful self to die, you arise newly born, blessed in Him

Death 2 - (physical) when your physical body passes away, you lay at rest until Christ's second coming and he command you to arise and rejoice with Him!

Non-believer:
Death 1 - (physical) when your body passes away, you lay at rest until Christ's second coming and he commands you to arise

Death 2 - (spiritual) when the Book of Life is read, and your name is not in it, you are sent to the Lake of fire to spend eternity...you have lost your opportunity at eternal life with Him, hence it is a eternal death

Now this is assuming that your first death in either case preceeds the Rapture as written in Revelation. Things change a bit if that's the case. At least this is my understanding of it.

Okay now I'm confused. To be honest, I may always have been. I am not sure if I understand the part about "...you lay at rest until Christ's second coming....". Somewhere in the bible it says "...prefer to be away from the body and at home with the Lord." And Jesus told the criminal who was crucified next to him, "...I tell you the truth, today you will be with me in paradise."

So which is it? Do we "rest" after we die until Jesus wakes us, or are we absent from the body and present with our Lord?"

The first death is when our body dies. According to the scriptures the dead in Christ are asleep until his return and the first resurection, called by many "The rapture".
Those overcoming disciples who have walked the narrow way and endured unto the end are saved and sit with Jesus on his throne. These are they who are free from judgement and the second death
The second and great resurection is when everyone who has ever lived is raised and judged according to their works. Some will recieve the reward of salvation and others the damnation of the second death created for Satan and his angles.
At least thats how I understand it. Praise the Lord.

Amen and Thank you Wes,
It is those who do what Jesus says that dont even have to face the judgement and second death. By the way thats what we are saved from, but only if we do what Jesus says. Obeying Jesus is not salvation by works, Its salvation by faith, trusting Jesus enough to obey him.
