I never implied that you were disparaging works.

But it is the Holy Spirit who is using the word "merits" in these statements.

You refer things to The Holy Spirit, when infact they just come from you as you continue to use writings out of context, and usually apart from the Bible. It is always wrong to attribute to The Spirit, that which originates from us.

"Luther tried through works to obtain the favour of God, but he was not satisfied until a gleam of light from Heaven drove the darkness from his mind, and led him to trust, not in works, but in the merits of the blood of Christ." Spiritual Gifts, Vol.1,120.

Speaking of Adam, Mrs. White wrote, "Faithfully did he repent of his sin and trust in the merits of the promised Saviour, and he died in the hope of a resurrection." The Great Controversy,647.

"Through the sacrifices and offerings brought to the earthly sanctuary, the children of Israel were to lay hold of the merits of a Saviour to come." Spiritual Gifts, vol.1,161

We are to trust wholly in the merits of a Saviour who has come.

Jesus is the One who does it all - not us. Our trust, our faith, all of our efforts and attitudes will not save us and if you would quote things in their context, your message would make more sense. None of those things such as faith, trust, good feelings, etc are our Savior. Only Jesus is. (John 1:29)

There is another passage by Ellen White which would give this whole thing more context and balance:
The religious services, the prayers, the praise, the penitent confession of sin, ascend from true believers as incense to the heavenly sanctuary: but passing through the corrupt channels of humanity, they are so defiled that unless purified by blood, they can never be of value with God. . . . All incense from earthly tabernacles must be moist with the cleansing drops of the blood of Christ. He holds before the Father the censer of His own merits, in which there is no taint of earthly corruption. He gathers into this censer the prayers, the praise, and the confessions of His people, and with these He puts His own spotless righteousness. Then, perfumed with the merits of Christ's propitiation, the incense comes up before God wholly and entirely acceptable. . . . {AG 154.4}
O, that all may see that everything in obedience, in penitence, in praise and thanksgiving must be placed upon the glowing fire of the righteousness of Christ. {AG 154.5}
Please stop using Ellen White's writings to make it sound like Adventists teach there is some way we can affect our salvation. That is not the case; and Jesus is in complete agreement with the passage I just quoted: "Without ME ye can do NOTHING..."
