My Bible says Jesus gives me a rest the 7th day sabbath doesn't. Mat 11:28-30

The goal of a disciple was to come under the yoke of a rabbi and learn from them how to obey the Torah by memorizing their teachings, by learning how to think and act like them, and by essentially becoming an imitator of them. We see this line of thought expressed in places like 1 John 2:3-6, where we are told to walk in the same way Christ walked, in 1 Peter 2:21-22, where we are told to follow Christ's example, and in 1 Corinthians 11:1, where we are to be imitators of him.

So in Matthew 11:28-30, Jesus was inviting people to become his disciples and to learn from him by word and by example how to obey the Torah. By saying that we would find rest for our souls, he was referencing Jeremiah 6:16-19, where the Torah is described as the good way where we will find rest for our souls. The rest for our souls from obeying the Torah comes from having faith in God to guide us in how to rightly live, not from taking a break from following His guidance.

You have personal problems with Rom 14 and Col 2.

My post didn't say anything about Romans 14 or Colossians 2. However, my problem is not with those chapters, but with people who make the error of interpreting them as speaking against obeying God rather than as speaking against obeying man, who then compound their error by concluding that they should therefore follow what they think Paul said instead of following God.

Christ made it impossible to follow in obedience to what He taught. In fact, it’s when you seek and realize that you cannot live to His standard and that you need Him to teach you and help you.

In Deuteronomy 30:11-14, God said that His Law was not too difficult for us to obey and 1 John 5:3 confirms that the commands of God are not burdensome. Do you believe that all things are possible with God...except obeying Him? In Matthew 23:23, Jesus said that faith was one of the weightier matters of the Law, so obedience to it has always been about depending on God to guide us in how to rightly live.

If you look at Colossians 2:16 by itself, then it is ambiguous as to when Paul was saying not to let anyone judge them for keeping God's holy days or for not keeping them, but it we look at the context of the views of the people judging them and keep in mind the theme that we must obey God rather than man, then it becomes clear:

Colossians 2:8 See to it that no one takes you captive by philosophy and empty deceit, according to human tradition, according to the elemental spirits of the world, and not according to Christ.

Paul would never have described those who were teaching obedience to the holy, righteous, and good commands of God in accordance with the example that Christ set for his followers as taking people captive by philosophy and empty deceit according to human tradition and not according to Christ. He went into more details about what these elemental spirits of the world are later in the chapter:

Colossians 2:20-23 If with Christ you died to the elemental spirits of the world, why, as if you were still alive in the world, do you submit to regulations— 21 “Do not handle, Do not taste, Do not touch” 22 (referring to things that all perish as they are used)—according to human precepts and teachings? 23 These have indeed an appearance of wisdom in promoting self-made religion and asceticism and severity to the body, but they are of no value in stopping the indulgence of the flesh.

So the Colossians were keeping God's holy days in obedience to His commands and in accordance with the example Christ set for us to follow, they were being judged by those teaching human traditions and precepts, self-made religion, asceticism, and severity to the body, and Paul was writing to encourage them not to let any man judge them and keep them from obeying God. So it is ironic that you would try to use Paul's words to justify disobeying God's commands.

God's Law straightforwardly does what it was given to do and does not do what it was not given to do, so the reason why we are not saved by obeying the Law is because it was never given for that purpose, so the fact that we should not obey the Law for that purpose does not mean that we should not obey the Law for the purposes for which it was given. Our salvation is from sin (Matthew 1:21) and sin is defined as the transgression of God's Law (1 John 3:4), so being trained by grace to live in obedience to God's Law through faith is what our salvation from living in disobedience to God's Law looks like. In Romans 1:5, we have received grace in order to bring about the obedience that faith requires, so we are not saved by our obedience, but rather the same grace and faith by which we are saved expresses itself as obedience. In Titus 2:11-14, our salvation is described as being trained by grace to do what is godly, righteous, and good, and to renounce doing what is ungodly, which is essentially what God's Law was given to instruct us how to do, so participating in this training is about fully receiving the grace that has been giving and about what our salvation looks like, not about trying to earn our salvation.

Jesus criticized the Pharisees for not obeying God's Law or for not obeying it correctly, but he never criticized them for obeying God. For example:

Matthew 23:23-24 “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you tithe mint and dill and cumin, and have neglected the weightier matters of the law: justice and mercy and faithfulness. These you ought to have done, without neglecting the others. 24 You blind guides, straining out a gnat and swallowing a camel!

So you should be careful not to take a criticism of what the Pharisees were doing as being a criticism of what God commanded.

The existence of sin requires there to be a standard of what is and is not sin, and this standard is God's Law. In Romans 3:20, God's Law was given to make us conscious of sin, in Romans 7:7, Paul would not have known what sin is if it weren't for God's Law, in 1 John 3:4, sin is the transgression of God's Law, and when Jesus began his ministry with the Gospel message to repent from our sins for the Kingdom of God is at hand, the Law was how his audience knew what sin is. Gentiles are either under God's Law and are obligated to refrain from sin and are not under God's Law, have no obligation to refrain from sin, and have never needed Jesus to give himself to redeem them from all Lawlessness.

However, God is God, so all Gentiles are under God's Law and are obligated to obey it and to refrain from sin regardless of whether or not they are in a covenant relationship with Him. For example, God judged the world the the Flood for their sins, God will judge the world in Revelation, God threatened to judge Nineveh, and God judged Sodom and Gomorrah for their Lawless deeds (2 Peter 2:6-8). They didn't get the choice of whether they wanted to be under God's Law and neither do you. The choice that you do get to make is whether or not you are going to heed the Gospel, repent, and obey.

In Deuteronomy 30:11-14, God said that His Law was not too difficult for us to obey and 1 John 5:3 confirms that to love God is to obey His commandments, which are not burdensome. Rather, it is the commandments of men that are burdensome.

In Matthew 23:23, Jesus said that faith is one of the weightier matters of the Law, so obedience to God's instructions is about having faith in Him to guide us in how to rightly live. Living by faith is always associated with having a willingness to obey God's instructions, such as with the examples of saving faith listed in Hebrews 11, whereas disobedience to God's instructions is referred to as breaking faith, such as in Numbers 5:6. In James 2:17-18, he said that faith without works is dead and that that he would show his faith by his works, so obedience to God's Law is not about adding our own efforts on top of our faith, but rather it is what our faith looks like, which is why Paul said in Romans 2:13 that it is only the doers of the Law who will be justified. So we are not saved by our obedience to the Law, but rather we have received grace to bring about the obedience that faith requires (Romans 1:5), so the same grace and faith by which we are saved also requires our obedience, which is why Paul said in Ephesians 2:8-10 that we have been saved by grace through faith, not by works, but rather we have been made creations in Christ for the purpose of doing good works.

Gal.4 Verses 9 to 12

In Galatians 4:8, Paul addressed those verses to those who formerly did not know God, also known as former pagans. As such they were not formerly keeping God's holy days and thus Paul could not have been criticizing them for going back to keeping them. Paul would not have referred to the holy, righteous, and good commandments of God as weak and worthless principles of the world, but rather that is how he referred to paganism. So whatever he was speaking about in verse 10 is in the context of paganism, not in regard to God's holy days. Again, you should be careful not to take something that was only against obeying man-made laws as being against obeying what God has commanded.

Do you think that Paul thought that everything that he listed in the preceding verses was lawful?:

1 Corinthians 6:9-11 Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality, 10 nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. 11 And such were some of you. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.

One of the main issues that Paul was writing the book of Corinthians to correct was that they considered everything to be lawful, especially in regard to sexual sin, so he was quoting that to argue against that position, not to endorse it.

Christ did not come to destroy the law, Christ came to fulfill the law. However, your interpretation of The Collosians is not one I agree with. A person can get very ensnared in heavy dogma. Only by God’s Grace and guidance from Christ can anyone navigate these waters.

The point made in Acts 15 is quite clear. Gentle believers are not required to be circumcised, etc. Also, homosexuality is covered when sexual immorality is forbidden, so that doesn't make your point.

Colossians 2
13 When you were dead in your trespasses and in the uncircumcision of your sinful nature, God made you alive with Christ. He forgave us all our trespasses,
14 having canceled the debt ascribed to us in the decrees that stood against us. He took it away, nailing it to the cross!
15 And having disarmed the powers and authorities, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross.

Hebrews 8
13 By speaking of a new covenant, He has made the first one obsolete; and what is obsolete and aging will soon disappear.

Luke 22:20
In the same way, after supper He took the cup, saying, "This cup is the new covenant in My blood, which is poured out for you.

2 Corinthians 3:6
And He has qualified us as ministers of a new covenant, not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.

2 Corinthians 5:17
Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away. Behold, the new has come!

Hebrews 1:11
They will perish, but You remain; they will all wear out like a garment.

Hebrews 7:22
Because of this oath, Jesus has become the guarantee of a better covenant.

Hebrews 8:6
Now, however, Jesus has received a much more excellent ministry, just as the covenant He mediates is better and is founded on better promises.

Hebrews 8:8
But God found fault with the people and said: "Behold, the days are coming, declares the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah.

Hebrews 9:15
Therefore Christ is the mediator of a new covenant, so that those who are called may receive the promised eternal inheritance, now that He has died to redeem them from the transgressions committed under the first covenant.

Hebrews 12:24
to Jesus the mediator of a new covenant, and to the sprinkled blood that speaks a better word than the blood of Abel.

Again, it is important to distinguish between what is said about the commands of God and what is said about the commands of men, so that you do not take what was only said against obeying man as being against obeying God. In Matthew 11:28-30, Jesus said that his burden was light and his yoke was easy an in 1 John 5:3, to love God is to obey His commandments, which are not burdensome, so the commands of God are not heavy dogma.

"To fulfill the Law" means "to cause God's will (as made known in the Law) to be obeyed as it should be" (NAS Greek Lexicon pleroo 2c3). After Jesus said he came to fulfill the Law in Matthew 5, this is precisely what he then proceeded to do six times throughout the rest of the chapter by teaching how to correctly understand and obey it. In Galatians 5:14, loving your neighbor fulfills the entire law, so it refers to obeying the Law as it should be obeyed, and refers to something countless people have done, not to something unique to Christ. Likewise, Galatians 6:2 says that bearing one another's burdens fulfills the Law of Christ, so you should interpret it in the same way as fulfilling the Law and the Prophets, namely obeying it as it should be, not as doing away with it. In Romans 15:18-19, it says that Paul fulfilled the Gospel, which again referred to causing Gentiles to become fully obedient to it in word and in deed, not to doing away with it.

According to Psalms 119:29, David wanted God to be gracious to him by teaching him to obey His Law. According to Titus 2:11-14, our salvation is described as being trained by grace to do things that describe what God's Law was given to do. According to Romans 1:5, we have received grace in order to bring about the obedience that faith requires. According to 2 Peter 3:17-18, growing in grace is contrasted with being taken away with the error of Lawless men. According to John 1:16-17, grace was added upon grace, so the grace of Christ was added upon the grace of the Law. According to Jude 1:4, the ungodly pervert God's grace into license for immorality. According to Strong's, "grace" is defined as "the divine influence upon the heart and its reflection in the life" and when God's will is reflected in our lives, it takes the form of obedience to His Law (Psalm 40:8), so grace is the power of God to overcome Lawlessness in our lives and it is by grace that God teaches us to walk in His ways in accordance with His Law.

There is absolutely a Standard as you call it. When I’m doing something that Christ doesn’t like, I’m made aware of it with repercussions if failure.

Our conscience is informed by the highest level or moral law that we believe. However, our conscience part of our fallen nature, so it is not perfect, which is why Paul said in 1 Corinthians 4:3 that even though he was not aware of anything against himself he was not justified. So our conscience helps us to live in accordance with the moral law, but it does not replace it, and therefore is not the ultimate determiner of our spiritual condition. Our conscience is capable of warning us when our spiritual condition is in danger, but it is not God's Law, and needs to be informed by God's Law in order to function correctly.

In Romans 14, there are weak Christians whose conscience is not informed in a mature way, where their conscience won't let them do what they really would be free to do, so again our conscience does not replace God's Law. Someone's conscience can be so misinformed that their glory is in their shame (Philippians 3:19), where both their mind and their conscience are defiled (Titus 1:15). So the first way to destroy the work of conscience is to misinform it where you don't give it the true Law of God and the second way is to silence it when it speaks. In 1 Timothy 4:2, Paul spoke about a wounded or seared conscience, and a good indicator of this is if someone sees nothing wrong with continuing to do what God has revealed in His Law to be sin.

The word for "fulfill" in Matthew 5 is pleroo, it doesn't mean to bring an end to. If it did, the verse contradicts itself. Thayer has an interesting definition... in my own words, he came to walk out all of God's promises and prophecies in their fullness. In doing so... we now have a model we can follow, Messiah. We are to walk as he walked, do as he did. And he did keep the commandments or else, he sinned. 1 John 3:4 is clear, sin is breaking the law (anomia).

Jesus kept the Law perfectly, as he did what none of us could do, and when e receive Him as our Lord and Savior, God credits that Law keeping to us now, so in the eyes of God we are guiltless and perfect keepers of the law now!

9 of the 10 Commandments were stated by Apostles to be practiced still by the Church, but Sabbath was not!

God's 4th commandment is stated all through the OLD and NEW TESTAMENT scriptures. According to the NEW TESTAMENT and OLD the purpose of God's LAW (10 commandments) is to give us the KNOWLEDGE of GOOD and EVIL; SIN and RIGHTOUESNESS *ROMANS 3:20; ROMANS 7:7; 1 JOHN 3:4; PSALMS 119:172. If we break anyone of them we stand guilty before God of sin *JAMES 2:10-11; ROMANS 3:19

We are only saved by GRACE through faith and not of ourselves it is a gift of God *EPHESIANS 2:8. All those who CONTINUE in KNOWN UNREPENTANT SIN will not enter into the KINGDOM of HEAVEN *HEBREWS 10:26-27 because they reject the gift of God's dear son *ROMANS 6:23. OBEDIENCE to God's LAW is not how we are saved it is the FRUIT of God's work in us as we BELIEVE and FOLLOW his WORD. If our faith has no fruit it is dead *JAMES 2:18-20; 26 and our tree will be cast down and thrown into the fire *MATTHEW 3:10; 7:19-20; 13:49-50.

According to God's WORD, God's 4th commandment is one of God's 10 commandments that give us the KNOWLEDGE of GOOD and EVIL; SIN and RIGHTEOUSNESS *ROMANS 3:20; ROMANS 7:7; 1 JOHN 3:4; PSALMS 119:172. Sunday worship is a tradition and teaching of man that has led many to break the commandments of God. Jesus says that if we follow the traditions of man that break the commandments of God we are not following God *MATTHEW 15:3-9. There is not one scripture in all of God's Word that says that God's 4th Commandment is now ABOLISHED and we are now commanded to KEEP Sunday as a Holy day.

Who should we follow the teachings and traditions of men or the Word of God? Who should we believe the Words of men or the Word of God? In times of ignorance God winks at but now, <when a KNOWLEDGE of the truth has come> calls all men everywhere to REPENT (FOLLOW) (Acts 17:30-31).

So let's hear the conclusion of the matter as PAUL says...

HEBREWS 4:9 SO THEN IT REMAINS FOR THE PEOPLE OF GOD TO KEEP THE SABBATH.

Hope this helps.

If you have not read the post as you confess how can you say it is legalistic and why would you make such claims that you cannot support by proof and scripture? If you have not read the post and the scriptures provided as you confess then you do not know what it is talking about and cannot make any claims about what is being said. They are not long posts, they are God's WORD not mine. All you are providing here are your words over Gods. Who should we believe God or you? *ROMANS 3:4. Only provided in love brother. Only God's WORD is true and we should believe and follow it.

God bless.

How are ceremonial laws against us?

The answer is in the very post you were quoting from. You did not read it did you.

GREEK WORD MEANINGS AND WORD USE

14, “BLOTTING OUT” < G1813 ἐξαλείφω exaleipho (ex-a-lei'-fō) v. means to rub out, i.e. obliterate, erase> the “HANDWRITING” < G5498 χειρόγραφον cheirographon (chei-ro'-gra-fon) n. means something hand-written (“chirograph”), a manuscript specially, a legal document > of “ORDINANCES” < G1378 δόγμα dogma (d̮og'-ma) n. means ordinance; CIVIL, CEREMONIAL or ECCLESIASTICAL LAWS> that was against us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;

The GREEK WORD meanings here in this scripture show that it follows the same CONTEXT of v11-13 in relation to the CEREMONIAL ORDINANCES found in the MOSAIC BOOK of the COVENANT *EXODUS 24:7.

V14
Blotting out or erasing the legal MANUSCRIPT or document of ORDINANCES referred to here are those of the CEREMONIAL ORDINANCES from the MOSAIC BOOK of the COVENANT.

The GREEK word for ORDIANACE is DOGMA meaning THE CIVIL, CEREMONIAL and ECCLESIASTICAL ORDINANCES once again only found in the MOSAIC BOOK of the Covenant *EXODUS 24:7

This scripture cannot be referring to the abolishing of the 10 commandments of God’s LAW as God’s 10 Commandments are not ORDINANCES and they are not written in a MANUSCRIPT they are written on two tables of stone (Exodus 31:18). Also the chapter CONTEXT is in reference to the CEREMONIAL ORDINANCES of CIRCUMCISION once again from the MOSAIC BOOK of the OLD COVENANT. These were all SHADOWS ALONG WITH THE ORDINANCES OF v17 pointing to Christ and the plan of SALVATION.

ORDINANCES that were against us is referring to the also referring to the PENALTY of SIN (breaking God’s Commandments and the ORDINANCES of curses written once again in the MOSAIC BOOK of the Covenant.

DEUTERONOMY 31:26 [26] Take this Book of the Law, and put it in the side of the ark of the covenant of the LORD your God, that it may be there FOR A WITNESS AGAINST THEE.

DEUTERONOMY 30:19 [19] For GOD has said, I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, BLESSINGS AND CURSES: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live: [20] That thou mayest love the Lord thy God, and that thou mayest OBEY his voice, and that thou mayest cleave unto him: for he is thy life, and the length of thy days: that thou mayest dwell in the land which the LORD swore unto thy fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give them.

(See the list of ORDINACES for curses of breaking Gods’ Law in DEUTERONOMY 28:15-68)

CONCLUSION; COL 2:14 is talking about the CEREMONIAL ORDINANCES written in the MOSIAC BOOK of the Covenant which are SHADOW laws pointing to Jesus and God’s plan of SALVATION. This is supported also by the within CHAPTER CONTEXT and SUBJECT matter of v16 which are all CEREMONIAL ORDINANCES written in the MOCAIC BOOK of the COVENANT and not referring to ABOLISHING God’s 10 Commandments.

My Bible says Jesus gives me a rest the 7th day sabbath doesn't. Mat 11:28-30

God's WORD says that no one enters into God's rest while KNOWINGLY breaking any one of His Commandments as they are not BELIEVING and FOLLOWING him and do not know him or LOVE him and need to be BORN AGAIN. *JAMES 2:10-11; 1 JOHN 2:3-4; JOHN 14:15; HEBREWS 3 and HEBREWS 4; 1 JOHN 3:9; JOHN 3:3-7.

Those who are born again are dead to the law meaning have no obligation to it.

If we are not BORN AGAIN we are still dead in tresspasses and sin and do not know God *EPHESIANS 2:1; 1 JOHN 2:3-4; 1 JOHN 3:3-10.
