Another step closer to artificial blood


Artificial blood stored as a powder could one day revolutionize emergency medicine and provide trauma victims a better chance of survival.

Researchers have created an artificial red blood cell that effectively picks up oxygen in the lungs and delivers it to tissues throughout the body.

This artificial blood can be freeze-dried, making it easier for combat medics and paramedics to keep on hand for emergencies, said senior researcher Dr. Allan Doctor. He is a critical care specialist at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis.

“It’s a dried powder that looks like paprika, basically,” Doctor said. “It can be stored in an IV plastic bag that a medic would carry, either in their ambulance or in a backpack, for a year or more. When they need to use it, they spike the bag with sterile water, mix it, and it’s ready to inject right then and there.”

The artificial blood cell, which is about one-fiftieth the size of a normal red blood cell, is made from purified human hemoglobin proteins that have been coated with a synthetic polymer, Doctor said. Hemoglobin is the component inside red blood cells that carries oxygen throughout the body.

A Japanese city has introduced a novel way to keep track of senior citizens with dementia who are prone to getting lost -- tagging their fingers and toes with scan-able barcodes.

A company in Iruma, north of Tokyo, developed tiny nail stickers, each of which carries a unique identity number to help concerned families find missing loved ones, according to the city's social welfare office.

The adhesive QR-coded seals for nails -- part of a free service launched this month and a first in Japan -- measure just one centimetre (0.4 inches) in size.

"Being able to attach the seals on nails is a great advantage," a city worker told AFP.

"There are already ID stickers for clothes or shoes but dementia patients are not always wearing those items."

Artificially intelligent nano-machines will be injected into humans within 20 years to repair and enhance muscles, cells and bone, a senior inventor at IBM has forecast.

John McNamara, who works at IBM Hursley Innovation Centre, in Hampshire, submitted evidence to the House of Lords Artificial Intelligence Committee, which is considering the economic, ethical and social implications of AI.

Mr McNamara said that within just two decades, technology may have advanced so much that humans and machines are effectively ‘melded’ together, allowing for huge leaps forward in human consciousness and cognition.

One thing worth remembering is if the world is thrown into darkness, then the evil ones are in the dark also.

I expect to be Raptured out before the tribulation and then the anti-christ will use the technology for his purposes.

It is scary but a sobering reminder that we need to look to Christ for support and comfort.

BTW, I have made several preparations in case the rapture lingers.

Since I firmly believe that there will be a rapture (sooner rather than later) of all faithful Christians by Jesus Christ taking all of his believers up into heaven just before mankind's final judgment it would be wise to prepare a 'rapture will'. A Rapture Will is where, in the event of the rapture, all of my possessions will be legally bequeath to all of my family, friends, and business associates of my choice who still don't believe in Jesus Christ and will be left behind after Jesus Christ raptures up his church into heaven.

I am sure some talented christian lawyer could assemble such a document and it will have the added benefit of alerting unbelievers, especially those mentioned in the rapture will, of the impending calamity coming to all unbelievers when they are left behind after the rapture. It would be a great way to spread ones faith and belief in Jesus Christ when an unbeliever is handed a copy of a Christian’s 'rapture will' that entitles them to a share of property that the believer in Jesus Christ will invariable leave behind after the rapture has taken place.

Additionally, you can make a 'rapture will' video that includes a testimonial of your faith in Jesus Christ (and a warning about the antichrist and the mark of the beast) so all those who are left behind are not driven to despair as there is always hope and salvation in Jesus Christ!

If you are an unbeliever, and having read this are worried of being left behind when Jesus Christ comes for his church just before mankind’s final judgment, then just believe in the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ (God become man) and then get baptized. It's that simple! Then make out your own 'rapture will' and hand it to another unbeliever that you know to alert them to their horrific fate of being left behind after the 'rapture retrieval' by Jesus Christ!

Creative to say the least. I'll admit that much. (Not laughing at you BTW, just the idea)--- me thinks a person has to be deemed missing something like 7 years to be considered legally missing or dead. By then it will be all over.
