Wonder if the first gay marrage will be in a Mosque under Shari wedding vows.

Personaly think theres bigger issues for the government to be sorting out then fast tracking this (what ever your views are on the matter). But I'm sure its been discussed to the death on here so I'll just whitter on to the wife about it.

So it passed with a majority of only 225?

The Sexual Offences Act 1967, which decriminalised homosexuality, passed the Commons with a majority of only 212.

Those against the bill today will come to be seen in a similar light to those who opposed in 1967.

I doubt it.
It's hardly as overtly discriminatory.

Great news indeed. I heard some of the opposition was vociferous in its condemnation of this bill. I think it is probably worth mentioning that a lot of this opposition had more to do with redefining marriage, as opposed to rampant homophobia. At least that's what I would like to believe. I find it odd that people are so concerned about two consenting adults wanting to memorialise their love through the act of marriage.

Progress is always slow, but it comes and I applaud Cameron's bravery on this. He has a lot to lose and it seems a large constituent of Tory members will abandon ship over this. No doubt UKIP will welcome them with open arms. Having said that, I don't even know what their stance is on this issue?

C'mon Hexa, even you can do better than that.

I tend to be one of those who considers equality to always be a big issue. It doesn't matter when the PM tackled this. The "bigger issues" argument will forever be used. So let's make it now. Why not?

UKIP are against same-sex marriage, this being a recent announcement if I remember correctly. So I assume they take the conservative position on most social issues.

Exactly.

When civil rights was kicking off in the US, the Cold War had nearly gone nuclear.

And these pansies today think a bit of austerity means we shouldn't be prioritising equal rights.

Well I guess when a person is incapable of something, they sometimes believe everyone else is also incapable of it, to comfort themselves...

Ah, you know my father to say that then, huh?

Just because he felt people who preach equality are usually hypocrites it means he was against equality himself?

My Dad was "live and let live" and also an atheist, so try again..............
