  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Has anyone had the Rhogam shot? I am RH Negative and had to have the shot today, no fun! I was thinking it was just a shot in the arm, o no it was right in my hip. She says "stand up" and I was like "For real? O gosh no!" I hate shots in the hip, they hurt like crazy! All that RH Factor stuff is so confusing but I think after reading about it I understand a bit more now. Out of 85% people who aren't negative I had to be in the minority.

Ouch!!

Its so good to have the option though. I'm not negative but my hubby and I have different blood type (i'm o, he's a) so we have a similar problem except that its not as serious as the rh problem. All of our babies had to stay in the hospital for a week because of jaundice due to a-b-o incompatibility! Basically my body builds up antibodies against the baby which get into the baby's bloodstream and breaks down the cells. But I praise God because its a small problem to have compared to the possibilities!!

Hugs to you! And way to go!

Hmm that is weird, cause hubby and I are the same, only I am A+ and he is O+. B only comes in play if one of you has AB or BB or BO so I am not sure why they told you that it was because of ABO incompatibility. And jaundice is a liver problem.

Sorry just confused about why your doctors would tell you that, coming from a medical background, albeit it is in animal medicine, I still had to take human biology and molecular biology classes.

My daughter never had any blood problems, and she is comeing from the same two types as your children.

Anyway, back the the OP

I am sorry you have to go through this. It sucks having the Rh- factor during pregnancy because of the potential health risks for both you and the baby. I have a friend who went though this.

I had the shots first pregnancy (one I barely felt, the other was a little sore-I had mine in the thigh though). Second pregnancy I chose not to have them, but had a fall in the end stages so chose to have one then just in case (that was in the thigh too-if you get another shot ask to have it in the thigh, see if its less painful for you than the hip).

I had a shot in the hip with both kids. Ouch...still remember it :(

Totally weird though...my whole life I'd been told I was A+...it was on my medical files and everything. My OBGYN sent me for a blood test to confirm (standard procedure)...and found I was A-...yikes!!! 34 years old and I find out my actually blood type!

The Rhogam shot has mercury in it... just to let you know.

Also, it's Not necessary to have one every single pregnancy... It's very common to wait and have the baby's blood type tested immediately after birth before seeing if it's Necessary to have the shot. A Very large amount of time, it's Not necessary. This is just one more thing that the medical community goes overboard with, IMO.

my husband is a+ my son is A+ the chances of me not needing one are slim to none...I am O- we don't Know what ken's parent's blood types were so we don't know if there is a chance for a negative or not...

I know I won't be able to donate blood for a year or so though.... I donated after I had robert...about 5 months or so, and still had antibodies in my blood from the shot...

everything I have read suggests that it needs to be done so the body does not build up antbodies that would attack a future pregnancy.... wonder what happened before they figuared this out...

Ya know what I don't appreciate your negative response. What is your point in telling me this other than trying to concern me? I did research on this before having it and anyway I believe the Lord is in control ulitmately. I believe I made the right decision in taking care of myself and my baby as well as future babies to come. I wasn't asking advice on whether I should have had the shot. I'm sorry this comes off rude but I just think it is very rude to post what you did.

Rh Disease...my aunt had it...only they didn't know what was wrong with her, my Mum figured it out when she found out I was A-. She visited the UK and got her sister's medical records. My Auntie died when she was 3...my Mum was 7 at the time so didn't have any idea of the medical stuff until visiting the hospital. My Grandmother never talked about her.

Whaaaaaa?! In the hip?! Oh man, forget that! I was thinking having them draw blood from my arm for the third time was bad enough  I have my appointment to have the RH shot thing on Monday.. The inner me is screaming right now yay x_x I'm O negative and they just lumped me in to have the shot last week (after having to put up with the glucose test). I'm so tired of being poked with needles and going to that stupid office. :sigh: Maybe I should do some researching of my own. Thanks for the heads-up~

Aww don't worry it is very quick!! It hurts more afterward when you sit down but the pain went away in about 30 mins or so afterward. This should be the last needle stick you get until you go into labor. I feel your pain though, I HATE needles! I get so nervous about those things. I have to get a flu shot this week too :(.

Singin4Him... sorry to be the voice of information again. ;) But you should Not Ever get the flu shot while pregnant. The level of mercury in the flu shot is Way too high for an unborn baby to be able to handle.

Just a few years ago OBs were telling women the Couldn't get a flu shot while pregnant because it wasn't safe for the unborn baby. Now all of a sudden it's flip-flopped... but they haven't changed the flu shot formula...

I'm sorry but I disagree and you don't need to be the "voice of information" for me dear, I have researched it myself and the risk of getting the flu and how harmful it can be to both mother and baby is far greater in my personal opinion. Thank you for your concern but in the future I would appreciate that you PM me in the future. My thread was not meant to be a debate over what is and is not safe.

I wasn't debating over what is and isn't safe. I was merely, once again, passing on information~ and trying to do it lightheartedly since I didn't seem to do it well the first time. I guess it didn't come across the way I meant it to once again.

At any rate, it's Not safe to get the flu shot during pregnancy. I know what doctors are saying Now, but the research hasn't been done, so they're only passing on information that the pharmaceutical companies are telling them.

I, personally, wouldn't risk the Russian Roulette of a vaccination that hasn't been tested thoroughly for pregnancy, but each woman has to do what she feels she should.
