1 Corinthians 3:
10
According to the grace of God which was given to me, as a wise master builder
I have laid the foundation, and another builds on it. But let each one take heed
how he builds on it.
11
For no other foundation can anyone lay than that which is laid,
which is Jesus Christ.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
For Paul, his work of building upon the foundation of Christ was the Church itself.
The
success of a congregation was his great reward.
1 Thessalonians 2:
19
For what is our hope, or joy, or crown of rejoicing? Is it not even you
in the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ at His coming?
20 For you are our glory and joy.

Paul recognizes in another letter that the prophets and apostles form a part of that
foundation, with Christ as the chief corner stone.

Ephesians 2:
20
having been built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ
Himself being the chief cornerstone,
21 in whom the whole building, being fitted together, grows into a holy temple
in the Lord,
22 in whom you also are being built together for a dwelling place
of God in the Spirit.

There is also the work of the Holy Spirit in transforming the hearts of believers,
that they may bear much fruit of righteousness.

2 Peter 1:
5
But also for this very reason, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue,
to virtue knowledge,
6 to knowledge self-control, to self-control perseverance, to perseverance godliness,
7 to godliness brotherly kindness, and to brotherly kindness love.
8 For if these things are yours and abound, you will be neither barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
The fruit of righteousness, as evidenced in true Christian character will stand
the test of
fire by which everyone's work will be tested.
1 Corinthians 3:
12
Now if anyone builds on this foundation gold, silver, precious stones,
wood, hay, straw,
13 each one’s work will become clear; for the Day will declare it, because
it will be revealed by fire; and the fire will test each one’s work, of what sort it is.
14 If anyone’s work which he has built on it endures, he will receive a reward.
15
If anyone’s work is burned, he will suffer loss; but he himself will be saved,
yet so as through fire.

The qualities of character attained as the crown of righteousness are retained as
the reward of the righteous, who have passed through the fiery trials of faith.

1 Peter 1:
6
In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while, if need be, you have
been grieved by various trials,
7 that the genuineness of your faith, being much more precious than gold that
perishes, though it is tested by fire, may be found to praise, honor, and glory
at the revelation of Jesus Christ.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
What is the work that produces wood, hay and stubble, which is burned away?
This is essentially the fruit of effort directed towards one's own reputation,
rather than the bringing of glory and honor to Christ alone. AKA: a respecter
of men and their opinions over the Lord's unique commendations.

John 5:
41
I do not receive honor from men.
42 But I know you, that you do not have the love of God in you.
43 I have come in My Father’s name, and you do not receive Me;
if another comes in his own name, him you will receive.
44 How can you believe, who receive honor from one another,
and do not seek the honor that comes from the only God?

The work of those known and loved by God
1 Corinthians 8:
2
And if anyone thinks that he knows anything, he knows nothing
yet as he ought to know.
3 But if anyone loves God, this one is known by Him.

Proving the sincerity of faith and love
2 Corinthians 8:8 I speak not by commandment, but I am testing
the sincerity of your love
by the diligence of others.

The wise child of God looks beyond salvation to receive a full reward
2 John 1:8 Look to yourselves, that we do not lose those things
we worked for,
but we may receive a full reward.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
The loss of reward is the perdition of a prideful man.
1 Corinthians 3:
16
Do you not know that you are the temple of God and the Spirit
of God dwells in you?
17 If anyone defiles the temple of God, God will destroy him.
For the temple of God is holy, which you are.

Paul offers godly advice
2 Corinthians 8:
10
And in this I give advice: It is to your advantage not only to be doing
what you began and were desiring to do a year ago;
11 but now you also must complete the doing; that as a readiness to desire,
so also a completion out of what you have.
12 For if there is first a willing mind, it is accepted according to what one has,
and not according to what he does not have.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
The path of divine wisdom is foolishness to the world
1 Corinthians 3:18 Let no one deceive himself. If anyone among you seems
to be wise in this age, let him become a fool that he may become wise.

Receiving spiritual wisdom brings forth the fruit of righteousness
James 3:
17
But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable,
gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality
and without hypocrisy.
18 Now the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace.

The full reward is our glory found in Him alone
Philippians 3:
20
For our citizenship is in heaven, from which we also eagerly wait for the Savior,
the Lord Jesus Christ,
21 who will transform our lowly body that it may be conformed to His glorious body,
according to the working by which He is able even to subdue all things to Himself.

The Father who sees in secret, will reward you openly Matthew 6:4, 6, 18
2 Corinthians 10:18
For not he who commends himself is approved, but
whom the Lord commends.
