About 145 AD, the Revelation of Peter was written. The book has only survived in two partial manuscripts, plus quotes in many other writings. The book was popular for some time, but was ultimately rejected by Christians. It was still being read in some churches during the fifth century.

The author, who claims to be Peter, gives a very detailed and vivid description of the torments of the people in Hell. While often stating that these torments are for all eternity, the book states twice that someday everyone in Hell will be released, because all of them will have repented.

The book is important for showing that the doctrine of consciousness after death was widely accepted during the second century.

Does this document have any parallel sayings longer or shorter to that of any of the canonical gospels?

If so are the shorter sayings more likely to be based on older sources than the canonical Gospels?

Wow, just wow.

Is it so hard to discern imagination from the truth?

Apocalypse of Peter - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Thus, sinners will finally be saved by the prayers of those in heaven. Peter then orders his son Clement not to speak of this revelation since God had told Peter to keep it secret:
[and God said]"... thou must not tell that which thou hearest unto the sinners lest they transgress the more, and sin."
This is what makes the book just a book.

John 12:40 “ HE HAS BLINDED THEIR EYES AND HE HARDENED THEIR HEART, SO THAT THEY WOULD NOT SEE WITH THEIR EYES AND PERCEIVE WITH THEIR HEART, AND BE CONVERTED AND I HEAL THEM.”

God doesn't care about sin. God cares about repentance (the repentance spoken of in the Bible is not just a one time thing, a mere change of mind, etc.).

Sin is irrelevant (John 9:31). What matters is that one repents (Luke 13:1-5).

Even if the so-called secret was from God, would the sinners be able to understand it? Would they believe it? God dictates belief (2 Tim. 2:25).
