i've noticed alot recently classic rock bands merchandise being sold everywhere. and alot of kids are buying it because it's cool, whether they like the music or not. I met someone who was wearing a Dark Side of the Moon tshirt and he said he got it at Target for $10. I said, "so you like pink floyd. he told me that "they're such a great band", but when i dug deeper he doesn't have the album, or know what's on it.

i've noticed that zeppelin, the doors, hendrix, pink floyd, the beatles seem to be names that are exploited by companies just to make money. It's like, "how many different ways can we put this well known, classic name on a product, and sell it"

so i guess what i'm trying to say is, if you really like it, and you know and love the history behind it, then go ahead and buy it. but i think it's stupid if you use it as a fashion statement.

sorry, i just needed to vent.

If it makes you feel any better, I'm not a faker, and all of my friends who listen to the same music I do are for real too. But I have noticed this fad too. Alot of teenagers want to get a Doors shirt cuz they have heard in passing that Morisson died young and so therefore must be cool (for the record, Morisson is cool, but not cuz he died young), or they maybe once saw Dark Side of the Rainbow and decided they must go out and get a Floyd shirt. I personally have a Dark Side shirt, but then again I also own three Floyd albums, and frequently listen to the 3 my dad has as well as his full-catalogue vinyl collection. In fact, as I'm typing this, Animals is playing on my computer (Pigs).

I definitely love it when I see other kids around who seem to be into good music, but, like you, I've noticed sometimes it's just a shallow fashion thing. It's sad that old music is being marketed to the same extent new music only used to be.

I haven't seen all that much merchandise of that type here in Australia - mainly when people are wearing music shirts it's Eminem, D12, etc...I'll actually try that if I see someone wearing a Kiss or other classic band t-shirt - ask them which is their fave song, band member, etc...^_^
