The Daisy Cutter has a lethal radius reported at from 300 to 900 feet, but there are no such estimates for the MOAB, although the area is believed to be significantly wider.

Daisy cutter - 15,000 pounds
MOAB - 21,000 pounds

Let's assume that the lethal radius is say 0.25 miles. Say, as have been suggestions, we drop it on a densely populated part of Baghdad. How many people live in densely populated part of Baghdad?

A circle of radius 0.25 miles has an area of roughly 3.14/16 square miles, or 0.2 square miles. The population density of Baghdad is given as 40,000 per square mile

So, a ball park figure of a MOAB dropped in the centre of Baghdad would kill at least thousands of people with simplistic assumptions. I guess you can tweak the calculations either way, but that's a ballpark figure.

That's not even talking about buildings collapsing outside the lethal radius from shock wave etc.

But that is not the purpose for daisy cutters, they are mainly used to destroy air fields and break through bunkers.

Regardless, chemical, biological and nuclear weapons are farp/b] more destructive than one of those other puppies.

A few strategically placed sticks of dynomite could kill thousands of people, too.

Just like the wheat combine that could kill a man in less than a second, that doesn't make it a weapon.

First off let me say, you're right. Your nationality shouldn't matter for these discussions.

Now, I believe the Daisy Cutter and MOAB being 15,000 lbs and 21,000 lbs respectively means that they are the equivalent of 15,000 and 21,000 lbs of TNT.

I found a list of nuclear weapons with their yields at this site:

The smallest yield device on this site was the "Purple Passion" which is used for mine demolition. The yield range for this device is anywhere from .01-.1 Ktons.

That means that the yield range is equivalent to 20,000-200,000 lbs of TNT. Now the MOAB is approaching that strength but it is at the very bottom of the yield range of a non-weapon nuclear device.

The lowest weaponized device yield I can see is the "Gwen" which has a yield range of 0.5-2 Ktons, which translates to 1,000,000-4,000,000 lbs of TNT. The MOAB doesn't even come close.

I haven't been able to confirm this, but I heard today that a Republican Guard unit in Basra, disguised as American soldiers, shot Iraqis when they tried to surrender to them.

Just another of their cruel tricks.

I also heard earlier that Iraqis have killed some civilians while dressed as American soldiers.

Then again, not confirmed, but I wouldn't put it past them.

People who could shoot at us after pretending to surrender, and who could fight using human shields.
