Troparion - Tone 1

By raising Lazarus from the dead before Your passion,
You did confirm the universal Resurrection, O Christ God!
Like the children with the palms of victory,
We cry out to You, O Vanquisher of death;
Hosanna in the Highest!
Blessed is He that comes in the Name of the Lord!

Kontakion - Tone 2

Christ the Joy, the Truth and the Light of all,
The Life of the World and the Resurrection
Has appeared in His goodness, to those on earth.
He has become the Image of our Resurrection,
Granting divine forgiveness to all!

When did your Lazarus Saturday fest come into being? And do RCs celebrate it also? Thanks

The hypothesis is that the entire Holy Week celebration. Many early text describe the week of preparation before illumination on Holy Pascha (which was the main day of the year for baptism). Also, there is evidence in the recording of the events in Jerusalem in the late 4th Century by pilgrim, Egeria, but she starts with the procession on Palm Sunday, so it's not clear is Lazarus Saturday was not celebrated at that time or if she just didn't say anything about it. The whole of Lent, pre-Lent and Holy week was very structured by the time the Triodion was created in the 9th Century. So definitely, it was celebrated by then. My guess is that early Holy Week celebration began with Palm Sunday and Lazarus Saturday was added sometime between then and the 9th century...
