Does the fact that we now know EXACTLY what causes a rainbow lessen the power and importance of God's promise?

The point is that God created the natural world and all its processes, but that, in itself, is a miracle. The fact that we are beginning to understand exactly HOW God might have created life on this Earth is the same as learning how rainbows actually happen. Scientific explanation of God's handiwork is not an attack on God, it is simply our grasping out to understand His greatness.

The fact that many see in evolution an alternative to God's creative force is besides the point, they are simply wrong. It is the same as if a person said that God did not create the rainbow because we know the scientific explanation of the refraction that creates the rainbow.

Atheists *do* use evolution to attempt to disprove the the existence of God. Too many Creationists simply aid them in their endeavors by agreeing with them that if you believe in evolution, you are denying God's role in the process. Believe me, atheists are very satisfied that Creationists have bought into this lie.

We know how the rainbow is made, but we know that God created the process. We know how photosynthesis works, but we know that it is all God's work. We understand how we, ourselves, reproduce, but we know that God created this reproductive process. We know that God could have waved his hand and brought each of us individually into existence miraculously in our perfect time. Yet, he chose to allow a natural process of sexual reproduction, a process created by Him, for this creative effort. Why is it so abhorrent that He used a natural process from the beginning?

Scientific knowledge can only help us understand God's Creation more fully, it can never destroy Faith.

UNLESS, of course, you accept the atheistic line of thought that the two are not compatible.

Hello Vance,
No, the fact that we know how it works is irrelevant, and as you point out, "Scientific knowledge can only help us understand God's Creation more fully, it can never destroy Faith" (unless of course your faith is dependent upon Old Earth creation being true).

However, that being said, the idea that rainbows had never been seen before troubles me. Even a waterfull would create a rainbow from its mist. So, knowing how it works does not lessen the power of God's promise, but realizing that it could not have not existed before the flood does. I stand by God's promise because of God's nature, character and persons. The rainbow just doesn't do much for me anymore.

Doesn't the bible say that prior to the flood rain NEVER happened?
Actually it says that it hadn't rained before the Garden of Eden was planted. Some believe that this extends up to the flood, but the Bible isn't clear on it.

And, again, the rainbow is just an example. The point is that just because we begin to understand the natural processes by which God has created this world and runs this world does not in any way mean we refute God, or His role. We need to see evolution as just another natural process created by God on this planet. It no more denies God than photosynthesis denies God.
