CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
Competition? The struggle for survival? Fruedian desires to be better than others? Nietzschian desires to supress others?

There are many many factors, but the one I find to be dominant:
Limited recources amoung large populations.
If you put 1 apple in a cage with 2 people, you will get issues.

Haha, those are some interesting answers. From a Christian perspective, humans will never get along because of the Fall after man (and woman) sinned in the Garden. There will always be strife, disagreement, and war until God makes it all right in the end. Until then, all we can do is "try your best to live at peace with one another, if you can" (paraphrased from the Bible).

weeeell while world peace is great for supermodel's wishes and awesome songs by john lennon, it goes against the very laws of evolution and nature. house put it best: there an evolutionary reason we care about the well being of us and those we sympathize with and the same reason prevents us from caring about everyone else. if we all loved one another indiscriminately, the human race couldnt function. (paraphrased for the non family friendly language and vagueness but that pretty much sums it up)
