  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I feel this Argus Eyes sums it up well. He touches succinctly upon most of the complaints that I have with modern feminism and speaks for many here on this board. He makes six points that are major problems with feminism. They are good reasons to drop the movement, ignore it, or reform it.

http://youtube.com/watch?v=68l4XUeJYo0

Particularly poignant are the quotes from modern Feminist leaders. For example: men should be systematically reduced to approximate 10% of the population? Unbelievable.

Reform it, certainly. But then any effective political or social movement has to involve constant reforming. But it worries me that anyone thinks these issues with the movement, as serious as they are, mean it should cease or be ignored. Feminism also has a lot of important things to say, and a lot of good left to do in our societies and around the world.

I think you are right that reform is a better option. There is value in Feminism to be found.

Leaders of the Feminist movement, like those he mentioned, are the reason I call myself an Equalist. It really bothers me that so many women in the Feminist movement seem to believe that women are superior to men, when obviously all humans are equal.

Okay, but don't complain to us when we quote Hitler to you in order to show how Christians are genocidal.

Isn't it strange that feminists hate everything that make women beautiful? It is a beautiful thing to be a mother, a grandmother, a wife - I guess feminists hate everyone - including women - as they would take what is most precious to us away.
Isn't it strange that some people make up lies about feminists?

Of course they were generalizations, and they were accurate ones. He made a good example when he cited the head of NOW not only failing to denigrate but making excuses for Andrea Yates. When the head of the largest Feminist organization in the USA and possibly the world speaks that way you know that there is something rotten in Denmark.

I'm a feminist.

I don't believe any of that ultra man hating garbage.

Same way 98% of Muslims don't believe in suicide bombing, and 99% of Christians don't believe in stoning people at homosexual funerals.

Its NEVER a good idea to extrapolate the views of one person across an entire group to which they claim membership

i don't believe they hate any of those things, they do however hate being pigeon-holed into ONLY doing those things, and having people around them say that you must have be those things to have a fulfilled life.
as someone who believes in equality, i believe that a person no matter the sex should be able to do anything they want in life, as long as they CAN do it.
i agreed with the video in many things, but agree more with the video responses to him
the old school feminist is hurting feminism more than anything now, we have some equality now we need to move on from the point that they started fighting for equal rights.
they are not helping the cause

for one example of what i mean about being able to do something, well how about female firefighters, men have more upper body strength, but a woman could as well, but on avg they don't.
but this shouldn't stop a woman who does have the strength because other women can't do it.

So basically we need more equalists in feminist leadership to turn feminism on the right path again.

Perhaps I'm too simplistic and not any official representative of feminism in general, but I think feminism (the ideal) is nothing more than a natural extension of the golden rule. How would I like to be treated were I born as a woman rather than a man? Not in the sense of bodily equality, because obviously the sexes are different, but in the sense of worth and respect. In the sense of equal opportunity, especially, which America should find a traditional value. To advocate and support the health and wellbeing of women, especially in our age of mass media and unrealistic body images. These things no one could find any objection to.

But of course, I don't run things so what do I know?

Thats pretty much how I see it... feminism is about sharing and equality... REAL equality, mind you, none of that "seperate yet equal" garbage which ends up with men going out having jobs, careers, and life fulfilment outside the home and women minding kids and dusting, but their both "equal"... or however its supposed to work.

Feminism is about anyperson being able to get a job or fill a roll based on their merits, and their gender being immaterial.

Andrea Yates was one crazy woman, who obviously should never have had children. Her husband (from what I heard in the news) was not much better.

However, even though some of the leaders of the Feminist movement say crazy things, that doesn't make the entire movement corrupt. A lot of good has happened, and continues to happen, even if some people have insane and unrealistic goals.

Judging all Feminists by a few crazies is like judging all Christians based on Fred Phelps and his lot. It is willingly overlooking the good, sane members of a group so that one can find a minority of crazies to hate.

Don't confuse equality with being the same. Men and women have different God given roles to fullfill - each role vital and equal in importance, but each role different. It is in differences that both men and women become unique, cherished, and beloved.

Anyone can do anything they want – but there are good, better, and best endeavors... The most ennobling thing a woman can become is a beloved wife and mother.

All Christians seek not for the glory of the world, but for the glory of God – to be loving, kind, charitable, meek, humble, selfless – this is where joy and discipleship lies. In humble unpaid acts of service… Fathers are designed to preside, protect, and provide for their families. This allows women to fulfill their beautiful noble role as a mother and wife.

For those without their own children – there are some women with children who are not mothers, and some mothers who do not have their own children…

Celebrate womanhood by being a woman, not by trying to be a man.
