Around my birthday I sent a letter to the Pope asking him to pray for me because of my OCD. Today in the mail I got a letter from the Apostolic Nunciature which I guess forward a letter from Monsignor Peter Wells the Secretariat of State at the Vatican. He said the Pope asked him to mail me back and that he is praying for me and also sent me a picture of him and a rosary that the Pope blessed. I'm so excited I actually got a response! The rosary is beautiful too and I'm very thankful the Vatican took time out to read my letter and write me back =) Just thought I'd like to share!

Could you describe what you wrote and to whom you addressed your letter?

I think if the Pope really does try to respond to the letters of the faithful I should perhaps ask him to pray for my vocation.

I have been having trouble with my OCD. See I have Pure Obsessional OCD. Where my brain just obsesses over it and analyzes and ruminates everything to get an answer. I'll obsess over it so much and get high anxiety from it and have to do physical and mental rituals. I have the obsession which then turns into a compulsion which my compulsion is praying. People with Pure O believe their obsessions are real and it makes us nuts..like I mean literally nuts lol So I asked the Pope to please pray for me to get better and get these intrusive mean horrible thoughts out of my head. Because I know God did not put them in my head..I also asked for him to pray for my family and my boyfriend who lost his faith. In the letter he said he is keeping me in his prayers and invoking upon me strength and peace in our Lord Jesus Christ and is sending his blessings to me.

His address is:

His Holiness Benedict XVI
Apostolic Palace
00120 Vatican City State, EUROPE

It took a month for him to reply which I know is okay...But I'm happy someone at the Vatican read my letter =) I'm not sure if the Pope really did or a Cardinal or something but it's nice to know someone did.

I should have made it a little more clear that I did not expect you to offer so much detail about such a personal matter; I was hoping more for an idea of how you asked. I may write him soon.

If it took a month from sending to receive a reply, it must have been received and responded to fairly quickly.

I doubt very much that the Pope replies personally to letters such as the one mentioned .

Officials make the replies , and the Pope will have made a general expression that those who write to him are in his prayers and receive his blessing .

The same applies to the Papal Blessing industry .

It's obvious that he's not going to personally sit down and read every letter; he'd have to have trusted people doing so on his behalf. Regardless of whether he personally reads a letter or not, his blessing and prayers still count.

Thats really wonderful! After reading your post I assumed you were much older than you are. Its nice to see a young person such as yourself so devoted to the Lord and the faith.

God bless,

gabriel
