"We must trust in the mighty power of God’s mercy. We are all sinners, but His grace transforms us and makes us new."

Another strike against infallibility from the top dog himself...

You might want to do a little research before you make comments that are just silly.

I don't understand how the Pope can say that when the Bible says this:

1 John 3:8-9
Whoever makes a practice of sinning is of the devil, for the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the works of the devil. 9 No one born of God makes a practice of sinning, for God's seed abides in him, and he cannot keep on sinning because he has been born of God.

Maybe he is being honest. Only a dishonest person would say they are without sin.

When scripture in 1st John says that about being without sin how could it be dishonest to say one is without sin as the scripture teaches?

Because you're misinterpreting the Scripture.

1 John 1:8 - If we say that we have no sin, we are deceiving ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar and His word is not in us.

1 John 3:9 - No one who is born of God practices sin, because His seed abides in him; and he cannot sin, because he is born of God

I believe the first chapter talks about everyone being a sinner by nature and having sinned due to that.

I believe the third chapter talks about continuing to sin. In fact from what i understand of other people's analysis of this passage, the Greek implies a continuous action of sinning or remaining in sin as opposed to committing a sin instantaneously. The Christian still sins, but does not remain continuous sin.

 Paul describes his struggles as a believer in Romans chapter 7. In light of Paul's struggle, this suggests to me that there is an inner struggle that persists in all believers, keeping us from sinless perfection in mind and action on this side of the eschaton.

The Papal claims to infallibilty when speaking ex cathedra is NOT a claim to being sinless or being infalliable all the time either
Here's an example of circular logic. Who says the pope is infallible? The pope.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Papal_infallibility

So if the doctrine of papal infallibility wasn't imagined until 1869-1870, were the previous popes fallible, or did they just not know they were infallible? And by not knowing they were infallible, doesn't that prove their fallibility? My head hurts.
